It's Good News Wednesday (2-8-23)

My good news is that the tournament gives us one more chance to make it to the dance. I hope they play their best ball.

A few friends and I are getting together to watch the Tigers in Lakeland. We will try to catch two or three games over the next few weeks.

I'm able to spend quite a bit of time with my granddaughter. We are having a blast. She's 2 1/2 and amazingly smart. Her mom is teaching her sign language, so I'm trying to learn as she learns. She's a sponge. She soaks everything up. I'm Teflon; nothing sticks.

Life is good, and I feel blessed.

What's your good news?

Recruiting Quick hits: 2024 OL Marques Easley already planning return visit to Michigan

Safe to say Michigan did a great job with four-star OL Marques Easley yesterday. A GREAT job.

He tells me that he is already planning on coming back up again soon but doesn’t have a date in mind. He was able to get a full view of practice and saw how Sherrone Moore operates.

He also appreciated the one-on-one time with the coaches.

Let’s talk BTT - how many wins needed? (Poll included)

How many BTT wins does Michigan need to make the NCAA tourny?

  • 1 (Rutgers)

    Votes: 4 8.7%
  • 2 (Rutgers & Purdue)

    Votes: 33 71.7%
  • 3 (Rutgers, Purdue & 1 more)

    Votes: 6 13.0%
  • 4 (win the BTT)

    Votes: 3 6.5%

I’m curious to see what everyone thinks Michigan needs to do in the BTT in order to make the NCAA tournament. Obviously they get in if they win the BTT, but I think it’s clear they don’t need to win it. So that begs the question - how many wins do they need?

I love how the bracket shaped up. Rutgers is a great matchup - theyve been playing pretty poor basketball, and offensively they’ve been really bad. If they win 2, they are a lock IMO. I like their chances if they win 1, as I think they would essentially jump Rutgers, who most believe to be in.

Additionally, I think we are ahead of Wisconsin if we beat Rutgers. Wisconsin just lost to OSU after going 9-11 in conference. Their NET and kenpom was in the 70s last I saw.

There’s obviously a lot of factors in play when evaluating teams. H2h games, computer rankings, quad 1 wins, bad losses, SOS, etc.

Lastly, other results will play a role. Was bummed to see psu pull out the last second win along with Wisconsin pulling out a win at Minnesota. Both games could’ve easily gone the other way, and I believe would’ve out both teams behind Michigan. Love this time of year, and all the chaos. Hope that we beat Rutgers, and take a run at Purdue. This team is playing better than many are giving them credit for.

2024 LB Brian Robinson is planning on visiting Michigan this weekend, it’s one of MANY trips he’s taken to campus in recent months, including last season.

I caught up with Robinson to see what he’s wanting to see with another visit to Ann Arbor.

- Says he has a great relationship with Michigan, which includes the staff and he also mentioned he has a great relationship with the training staff.
- He says he has never met Chris Partridge before but is very aware of his coaching style.
- During this trip, Robinson is making it a priority to sit down with Partridge to get some one-on-one time.
- Building a relationship with Partridge during the visit is “very important” to him.
- He is getting the full educational experience during this visit
- when I asked about Luke Hamilton, he says that he is “my guy” and that he’s in his ear a lot. Says Cam Calhoun and Mason Curtis is also after him hard.

More with Robinson after his visit wraps up.

Recruiting On Brandon Davis-Swain…

After the belief that Brandon Davis-Swain wasn’t part of the picture, I can confirm that he is currently a take for the program if he decided to pick Michigan. There was talk that he wasn’t a scheme fit but it appears, for now, those talks have stopped and they will work around it.

He is coming off a “solid” visit to Michigan on Tuesday.

I will do some more digging to see where things stand moving forward.

Recruiting HQH Plus 3/8: Will Michigan pursue Nick Marsh?

2024 four-star wide receiver Nick Marsh decommitted from Michigan State today, the in-state talent has been coveted by a handful of schools, Michigan included.

I received a note from one of my recruiting sources this evening that suggests the Wolverines WILL try to push for Marsh. At the very least, the push is on for him to visit this spring by the staff—and it's a strong push. It's unknown as of this writing whether he will intend to visit but I will be curious to see if he makes the trip.

The U-M staff views Marsh as a very good talent that's in their backyard so they are putting in their best shot. The optimism surrounding U-M's chances isn't high right now but anything can happen. Just have to get the kid on a visit.
