Proud of The University of Michigan.

Minority President, athletic director, football coach and basketball coach.

We all would love for this not to matter because we’d all prefer that we live and have lived in a just color, age and sex (etc.) blind society. But we dont and we haven’t.

There are some days where the term “Leaders and Best” shines through a bit more for me. Today is one of those days.

Go blue. Always.

Insider What does an increased focus on recruiting and NIL engagement look like?

We posted the other day that Sherrone Moore is hoping to beef up the recruiting department once he officially takes over the program as well as have more engagement with NIL collectives and booster events.

I can confirm that Sherrone Moore has had conversations already with NIL collectives as well as booster clubs about what can be done to have more partnerships and work together to create more of a synergy between these areas and the football program. Jim Harbaugh, although very successful in his ways, was described as 'aloof' when it comes to NIL collectives and booster clubs. Moore is under the belief that more engagement and visibility will bring even more support.

Now, this isn't to knock Harbaugh on his way out of the door, he just didn't participate in many events where it could benefit the football program and that was the perception of some people I spoke with.

Of course, he didn't have to as he found success but Moore wanted to try something different and this was an area that could be improved.

As for recruiting, it sounds like U-M is going to be much more up-front about how much a player could make while at U-M. I don't think you'll hear the "transformational not transactional" line being said much but I also don't expect the program to be in bidding wars for players, either. There's a happy balance to be had and they won't do anything that will get them in trouble for it.

That said, after speaking to folks, I do get the sense that the program is not going to shy away from recruits who are looking for "the bag". I do think they will recruit players like that but, again, I don't expect them to be out here paying for commitments. You won't be seeing headlines of a player getting paid X amount of dollars to play at Michigan.

By being more open about how much a player can make while on campus, it avoids a potential Texas A&M situation or a player voicing their opinions publicly that the NIL contract he signed is not being fulfilled.

Being more open and finding success are two different things but there appears to be some sort of a shift in the line of thinking moving forward.

Recruiting Michigan football recruits are high on coach Sherrone Moore

Jim Harbaugh has moved on from Michigan and will head back to the NFL to coach the LA Chargers after nine years with the program and capping off his tenure with a national title.

Now, all signs point to Sherrone Moore as being the next man up to lead the program into the future—and he is a coach recruits think highly of:

What if Minter stays?

Something to consider and I know it might be a bit of a long shot but the NFL isn’t going anywhere. Minter is going to be in high demand regardless.

The big thing to consider, next year could possibly be Minter’s best defense at Michigan and perhaps the last year with this core unit still largely intact. It could be a strong incentive to stay to see how that plays out and coach those kids.

Just a thought but there is still a human and coach element to this that goes beyond money and the prestige of the NFL.

The Natty has brought me a lot of peace (and euphoria), but let's be honest unfortunately this team is heading for a big falloff next year...

I'm not as optimistic as a lot of people seem to be on Moore. Of course former players are going to say 'search no more' and 'hes the right guy's but that's because they loved him. I'm sure he is an amazing person (as was demonstrated by his love for Harbaugh after Ohio). As for continuing the family culture, that works because they're winning...they've won the big 10 and made the playoffs 3 years in a row. Trust me if they were 8-4 no one would give a shit about the family culture. And the fact that Sherrone managed the clock and timeouts for a couple games after Harbaugh game planned all week, doesn't convince me.

The bottom line is that the Offensive and Defensive masterminds of this team will be gone. 5 star QBs have been attracted to Michigan bc of Harbaugh. That's now gone.
The annual charades with the NFL the last few years has hurt recruiting and the cupboard is not as stocked as it should be given our recent success. We've also missed out on the portal ...the one quick way to fill in the pieces. Our rivals have NOT missed out on this opportunity.

Heading in to our toughest schedule maybe ever, we've lost a ton of key talent without players ready to fill the void. We haven't recruited well (or as well as we should have), we're behind in the NIL game (we will catch up) but we have not replaced the key departures (again, probably a result of the coaching uncertainty). Plus, we might even lose players and recruits to the portal. And if waiting to see how we look on the field for our new staff is the barometer for next year's recruits, that might not show well. Plus we have no OC or DC yet .

So although Moore might have been the right choice if this happened last year and we had Minter and all the key pieces to the team returning...and we wanted someone to keep it rolling, then Moore probably would have been the best guy.

However, given all of the above and the brutal schedule and Ohio buying an all-star team, I think Moore is set up to look way over his head.

I'm at peace with it all, and I would have traded this years Natty for an 0-12 season next year.

BUT a big name star coach might be the route we ultimately have to go with.

Insider Intel: Inside Michigan's Thursday team meeting

Michigan AD Warde Manuel spoke to the team this afternoon to discuss the future of the program. The meeting wasn't very long as the players had a lift session directly after the meeting was over.

Here are the highlights:

- Manuel said that he intends to work quickly to name a successor, including saying that he would like to be done with the process by the weekend.
- He did not mention Sherrone Moore by name but it was heavily implied and allowed those in the room to read between the lines about who was up next.

I can confirm that coaches are telling their players privately that Sherrone Moore is going to be the guy.

Feels so good….

We are still freaking National Champions!! For all of 2024. Period!!

The guys in the room were smart enough to deliver wins in big moments. Including PSU AND OSU without Jim. Michigan returns a ton. I trust that they will figure it out and put a good product on the field.

I don’t get the extent of the angst. I feel good that I get to bask in the national championship spotlight for a year. It’s a great feeling. The rest will all take care of itself.

Our offense has been pretty basic...

From a play-calling standpoint. We do use a lot of motion, but it's not an exotic brand of high-flying downfield passing. I am perfectly fine with that. I love a ground-and-pound type of game where we just beat people up.

On the other hand, we have been anything but basic on defense. The secret sauce that Minter cooked up the last couple of years has been like magic. I am most concerned about losing Jessie and getting someone who can continue the high-level defense we have become accustomed to seeing.
