Insider Intel: On Dusty May and NIL...

Should be no surprise to see that NIL efforts are underway with Dusty May taking over the program. It's no big secret that NIL for the basketball program had been a hindrance for some time and there's a concerted effort from those in collectives as well as from Dusty May.

Engagement is the biggest thing when it comes to programs and NIL dollars and that should be in the works to get things fixed.

As for now, we're told that May and one collective in particular plan to have a "big meeting" in the next few weeks to discuss a plan and put everything on the table. Sounds like folks are excited about it. Of course, May has some work to do to get assistants and his roots established, which is why the meeting had to be pushed back a bit.

So far, a lot of good things are being said but actions will ultimately tell the true story.

Insider One thing I can add on the DL coach search…

Sherrone is swinging for the fences again. I have heard of one name he went after HARD but do not want to burn sources as this candidate is staying at his original school with a new deal and that creates a mess all on its own.

For what it’s worth, it would‘ve made A LOT of people happy.

He’s throwing around big money just like he did with BJM and Alford. He’s going to get another great candidate at this rate. Only a matter of time.

FWIW, Terrance Jamison has yet to be contacted. Not sure what the status will be of that.

So it appears that certain Michigan Media and thus many fans would have us believe that…

Warde doesn’t talk to Jim (oops)

Jim is going to leave because he doesn’t feel loved by Warde (oops)

Warde doesn’t want to keep Jim (oops)

Warde hates NIL we’re doomed (ooops)

All our good football players are going to leave because Warde sucks and won’t get them NIL (oops).

Warde isnt going to fire his guy Howard. (Oops)

Adolescent Rationalization: Warde only fired his guy because Ono or others?? made him.

Warde won’t include Beilein in the process (oops)

Adolescent Rationalization: Warde only included Beilein in the process because Ono made him.

Warde is incapable of making a good hire (oops)

Adolescent Rationalization: Warde only made a good hire because Ono and Beilein helped.

Did I catch everything?

Are you remaining Warde sucks sheep awake yet as to what you’ve been being sold?

The same department that set records for Big Ten titles a year ago has been killing it during a very risky time the last three months. Killing it.

Almost like we have competent Athletic Director that doesn’t deserve constant slander.

I hope people are done buying the transparent slander (and really worse) that’s being peddled.

Insider Hearing on DL search...

Two names that have come up. One, obviously, Terrance Jamison from Illinois. As far as I'm aware as of this posting, he has yet to be reached out to.

Memphis' Lou Esposito is also a name that has come up as well but I do not have information regarding whether he's been contacted yet.

An evolving situation so be patient with me as I sift through some stuff. I suspect this search won't take too much longer.

Basketball What do you think Dusty May's immediate priorities are?

Outside of the obvious that he needs to build a roster and reestablish Michigan on the recruiting trail, what do you think Dusty May's immediate priorities should be during his first few weeks on the job? I wanted to do a story on this and wanted to get a hivemind going on topics outside of the basic "he needs to build a roster." Well, duh, that's obvious.

- He needs to establish a staff from top to bottom, including in the S&C department: Another "duh" point here but you can break it down to finer details. What are you hoping he does with his staff? What are you looking for? Does he create positions that can help him out like a GM role to go along with a Director of Basketball Ops. He'll have the resources he needs.
- Establish connections with NIL collectives and efforts in the athletic department: Pretty self-explanatory here for a guy who is new on campus.

What else do you think are high priorities?

I’m sure none of us are surprised about the bribery, but that the NCAA would look the other way seems like they be participating in their own funeral.

Also that the whistleblower is now dead. I know that could be natural and coincidental, but there seems to be a lot of that going around. 🤔🫤🤓😎

Insider Intel: Warde Manuel and John Beilein team up to land Dusty May

Here is a bit of postscript on the Dusty May situation that I wanted to hold off on until I got a little more intel on. Here's what I am hearing.

Dusty May was Warde Manuel's number one choice and it wasn't even close. It sounds as if John Beilein wanted to be involved in the search initially but Manuel was focused on May, and Beilein made his voice heard in the process. Beilein and Manuel eventually talked this week and the two teamed up to bring this one home later in the week.

I'm told that Manuel AND Beilein met with May today with Beilein wanting to discuss some very specific things with him during their conversation and I'm told the two hit it off. May and Michigan had already came to terms on money and contract jargon, the meeting/interview today was to sell U-M, which the two did successfully and eventually pulled the rug from underneath Louisville in the process.

In an interesting twist, we're also told that Beilein would be interested in being involved with the program in some capacity, perhaps in a Director of Ops role. Would be a huge addition if it comes to pass. I know that Manuel would be supportive of the move as well.

At any rate, props need to go to Manuel for identifying his main target and using his assets to his advantage which, in turn, brought this over the finish line tonight.
