BTT Baseball - B1G umps screw Iowa... unbelievable call

here's the setting in today's B1G elimination game between Iowa and Illinois.

Illinois scores 2 in the top of the 10th to make it 4-2.

Iowa loads the bases i the bottom of the 10th with no out and Seegers up at the plate. Seegers if 4-7 inn the tourney so far.

He hits a smash to first base and the first baseman makes a scrambling play to get them ball ans throw to the Illinois SS at second to try for a double play.

The run slides straight into the base, not to either side. while he may have been a little late as his feet overslide the base, he did not touch the SS in any way who caught the ball on the inside of the bag and through to first to try and complete the double play. Seegers beat out the play.

Keep in mind Illinois was the regular season champion

The umps called the runner going into second out for a "slide interference" which also resulted in Seegers (the batter) being called out and the runners on third and second to return to their bases.
Instead of a 4-3 game with runners on 1st and third with one out, the game was now runners on second and third with two outs and the score reverts back to 4-2.

You have to watch the replay... such BS. IMO.

Illinois had not replay left, but the umps decided to review the play and called it "confirmed". not sure what they were looking at.

It wasn't like the runner going to second ran out of the base line, not did hit impede or in any other way touch the SS who caught the ball and returned a throw back to first. Nor did he raise his hands to try an prevent the ball from getting to the SS. I find it hard to believe they called the runner out from heading straight to second as fast as he could. Even the announcers thought the call would be overturned upon review. But not in our B1G. Why ruin the leagues reputation for fine officiating.

I have no dog in this fight, but that call was just wrong. Iowa's coach did his best interpretation of George Brett in the pine tar incident or Whitey Herzog going to the mound or even a Bill Martin rant. Hell of a way to have your season end.

I don't recall seeing a B1G head coach so irate over a call. Watch for Pettiti to discipline him, but that would BS too.

I don't know that I could equate it to a football call Michigan received and how we felt afterwards. IF so, it may be in Bo's last Rose Bowl when they called a penalty on our fake punt late in the game negating a huge gain and retain the ball with a chance to do more. Or more recently, when Ojabo hit MSU's QB and forced a fumble which Hutchinson recovered in the end zone in the 2021 game at MSU. Those would be very close.

Court Settlement NCAA..Revenue Sharing Coming/power 5

2022 suit settlement came down today tossing out the window most of the conventionally long espoused rules the Ncaa had been clinging to regarding recruits, money and Oh Yes. that sinful appeal Harbaugh dared to suggest ' Revenue sharing for athletes should be embraced and implemented with NCAA compliance and affordance of application' That stung the NCAA in their rocks, or lack thereof. Harbaugh dared to whisper such heresy. He so did and along came the birth of hamburger gate, spygate etc to teach Harbaugh a lesson and invite him to the exit ramp leading to promotions in football. Guess what! Now here we are and JH was quite accurate with his exhortation. Multi billion $$$ settlement transpires and articulated changes are on the near horizon. Changes with parallelism to Harbaugh's harsh council. He left behind a footprint beyond just a Natty.

Man the hate…

It’s amazing living in this age where media now directs things to us that it predicts will stoke our emotion and engagement.

Evidently being a Michigan fan gets me gobs of hate on X. It’s remarkable people think the way they do let alone put it out there for consumption. The anger that something like Dono getting a cover elicits - wow.

I thought the investment in JJ not being drafted high was bizarre.

People are sick. If I ever show signs of that - someone beat me - please.

Let me guess, suspending a coach over player safety is magically irrelevant here

Recruiting Quick Hits: Michigan offers 2025 DB Donovan Starr

Michigan is the latest offer for 2025 DB Donovan Starr out of Brentwood, Tennessee this week. As you would imagine, the offer from the Wolverines is a big one in terms of the relationship he has with other members of the team from the state, including Junior Colson, who all know Starr well.

I caught up with him for a brief conversation about where things stand.

- He was excited to receive the offer from the national champs, the offer meant 'a lot' to him
- U-M's winning culture and NFL pedigree speaks for itself, that's what sticks out to him the most right now.
- He is looking for a program that can develop him, give him an opportunity to play and the relationship he has with the staff and program as a whole. With his relationship with a handful of players already, a partial box can be checked off here.

As for a future visit, he said it was possible he would be visiting in the near future but would have to see how things go. Can't rule it out but something could happen down the line into the season if not.

FYI on my absence

I have once again been hit with another sickness. I CAN NOT WAIT for my son to be done with school. He's brought something gross home every three weeks or so.
This one hit me pretty hard, so I've basically been sleeping for the last 48 hours. As always, Josh has allowed me to focus on getting better, so that's why I've been ghosting for the last two days.
I got a buffet of meds today and am already starting to feel better. Hope I can be back again as soon as tomorrow.
I just wanted to give you all a heads-up and, as always, a thank you to Josh, who already works too hard and had to pick up my slack this week.

Appreciate you all, and screw Kindergarten.
