Insider Intel: Connecting the dots on what’s next

Collected some more information and things are starting to get VERY interesting and, at the same time, we’re entering a very sticky situation.

Remember when I said that Michigan was confident about the NCAA’s findings during the Thursday discussion?

There’s a reason for that.

We’re now officially entering the “how was the information obtained” phase of the discussion.

At this point, we’re waiting for news of who hired the PI firm. There is some smoke about WHO it could possibly be and why there is confidence on Michigan’s end because now you’re going down the path on how this information was obtained if no one from Michigan gave permission for the private firm to investigate.

I’ll leave you with this: Refer to this tweet

Insider Intel: On Jim Harbaugh’s contract and the NCAA investigation

With the news of the NCAA investigation, talks of Jim Harbaugh’s contract extension have hit another snag.

Confirmed that this thing is delayed again due to the NCAA investigation. It has been HEAVILY implied that this was set to be announced during the bye week.

It was going to be a mega deal that was all but wrapped up.

Now it’s going to wait a little longer. Still don’t have any doubts it’ll happen, though.

The Contract and The Future

The contract terms being discussed by Michigan and Jim Harbaugh’s attorneys almost certainly have a much-elevated buyout for Harbaugh. If Harbaugh doesn’t sign the extension being offered before the bowl games, it’s very likely he will resign from Michigan and head for the NFL. He won’t want to suffer from a much elevated buyout provision.

That would be too bad, but very understandable considering the continued efforts by the NCAA investigation committee to punish Harbaugh and Michigan. What are the circumstances that has lead the NCAA to have such feelings? Who knows, but it’s clear that Michigan and Harbaugh have been targeted and that’s not likely to change.

If Harbaugh leaves that will be too bad for Michigan, the young men on the team, and college football in general. But his decision would be very understandable.

Watched Arizona vs Wash State last night

Jedd Fisch has Arizona playing some ball (at least offensively). They knocked off # 11 Oregon State.

the team is only 5-3 but they lost to Mississippi State on the road by 7, to Washington by 7 and by 2 at USC.

They get UCLA next at home, then travel to Colorado before having Utah at home and then play ASU on the road.

Hope they get to a bowl...

Recruiting Intel: On Bryce Underwood's upcoming decision

If you've been around here for a while, you would know that we have been fairly consistent that the January 6 commitment date would be likely for 2025 five-star QB Bryce Underwood. That is a special day for him, his grandmother's birthday. It's been confirmed that the date is now official for his commitment.

What does this mean for Michigan, even with the NCAA investigation?

Absolutely nothing. Business as usual.

The latest round of investigations by the NCAA has zero impact on Michigan's standing here, even our own Seth Berry confirmed it with Underwood himself on Friday.

I do very much get the sense this is coming down to a Michigan-LSU race, as it has been for a long time. Speaking to someone close to Underwood, while kids his age may always have a trick up their sleeve, it's believed he has a good idea of where he is headed.

In my OPINION, I give the nod to Michigan right now.

Kirk Campbell continues to do incredible work here and has brought the Wolverines back from the brink. I want to reiterate, that I am not close to making any official predictions, I just believe the Wolverines have the upper hand right now. There is still work to be done and more trips to be made by the Underwood family so anything could change between now and January.

I'll continue to dig as usual but wanted to share what I know and how I feel about this thing where we sit right now.

This year's OSU team feels like one out of the Tressel era

Their offense stalls a lot, but is really good at answering scores by opponents and they're efficient in the fourth quarter. They have a difference maker on offense and they scheme the offense around him (In the Tressel era it went from Clarett, Troy Smith, Beanie, Pryor). Tressel's teams would lull you with small gains and then hit 2-3 huge plays a game. This team is a little like that. The defense, as much as I was hoping it would never get fixed, looks to be very stout and start by slowing down the run game. The secondary still feels a little untested, to be honest. But they are winning games with scores of 17-14, 20-12, 24-10. Those look like Tressel ball scores to me. Who would have thought a Ryan Day team would like like this?

So how does Michigan beat a Tressel ball team? It's pretty much the same recipe for winning big games, which makes this all the more weird:
  1. No turnovers
  2. Win the rushing battle
  3. Limit their big plays (MHJr will get his 2-3 but keep Henderson in check)
  4. Few penalites
Anyone else see it like this?

Football Where Michigan ranks in every major statistical category after Week 9

Some discrepancies, of course, because Michigan didn't play this week (like total first downs) but there is some rising of the numbers.

Insider Intel: On the aftermath of NCAA's Thursday visit

After speaking to some folks, I have been able to get a better sense of the aftermath of the NCAA's Thursday visit to campus. Here's what we've been able to gather.

The NCAA stopped by to discuss the investigation with some of the U-M admin, not sure which members but I am of the belief that Warde Manuel and Santa Ono were informed of the proceedings. We are told that the admin is cool and collected after the meetings, there is no panic and the mood is overall good.

We're told, in the opinion of folks we're talking to, that they're confident about the NCAA's finding so far and how the situation will be resolved.

As always, I will continue to dig into the situation.
