Recruiting Where Michigan class of 2024 commits, targets rank in latest Rivals250

The newest Rivals250 was released for the class of 2024 earlier this week.

See where Michigan football commits and targets stand in the latest rankings:

Chaos scenario

Bama and Texas both win their semifinals, or one of them wins the National Championship.

FSU beats Georgia.

FSU ends up the lone unbeaten.

Not a very likely scenario at all - FSU is a two-touchdown underdog right now (which also makes a loud statement on why the committee made the decision it did), and Bama and Texas are both small underdogs.

But it would be a crazy outcome that would be very 1997-like.

Insider Intel: Is Michigan a realistic option for Dante Moore?

I made a few phone calls today to get a better sense of where things stand between Michigan and its pursuit of Dante Moore in the portal.

After gathering some information, I have been able to glean that the staff's interest in Moore is VERY sincere and the two have made contact since Moore entered the portal on Monday.

Before anything moves forward with Moore's decision, he is currently back in LA taking finals at UCLA and wants to make sure that gets wrapped up. He was recently back in town to celebrate his mother's cancer being in remission, which was really big for the family. So, as of right now, Moore's motivations lie with celebrating with the family and finishing up his finals.

After finals are over, the expectation is that he will make a decision fairly quickly.

As for the criteria, I was told by a very good source on the matter that Moore is "dead ass serious" about development. It was also made clear that a starting job DOES NOT have to be offered to him for him to make a selection. The relationship he has with the staff and the ability to be developed are clear priorities for him. The way it was laid out to me, Moore flew across the country as a 17-year-old kid, who just turned 18, and saw the likes of Bo Nix, Michael Penix and Jayden Daniels be successful quarterbacks after spending multiple years developing in the college ranks. While he learned on the fly, he understands that he can develop and it doesn't necessarily have to be in a starting role immediately either.

So it's safe to say that depth chart won't be a hurdle in his decision.

Now, for the Wolverines' chances, Moore isn't focusing on school options just yet because, as mentioned above, he wants to prioritize finals and finish them. However, I am told that U-M is a 'realistic' option for him once his focus shifts to his portal recruitment.

I did ask and being closer to family isn't a factor in his upcoming decision.

Opinion here, I think the Wolverines could be considered the best fit for him and could very well be the choice. Of course, we'll see how it develops but the groundwork is there, as is the support.

I Haven’t Been Stressed or Never Lost Confidence that Michigan…

was going to lose a game all year. Even when Maryland was moving the ball on us all game. Since Tua’s little brother has been there, Maryland has been the team that always kept things close, but I never felt Michigan was in danger of losing that game. I knew going in to the PSU game that they had a super athletic defense and I figured they’d run the ball to compensate, but I had no idea Michigan would arrogantly run the ball 32 times in row in the second half and break PSU’s will like a battering ram. I knew they would beat Franklin regardless of the sports media and social media feeding frenzy surrounding Michigan and Harbaugh. The OSU game I was most confident of all about. I said after last year’s game that Michigan would win again in 2023, based solely on the shortcomings of that fake tough guy “just for men” spokesman Coach 3rd base. If Harbaugh is coaching Michigan next season, I will guarantee a 4th win in a row, especially with the exodus of transfer portal talent from OSU. What’s the quote? “The rats are first to abandon a sinking ship?” Maybe applies to the captain of the ship in this case than the ship itself.

As far as Alabama in the Rose Bowl (which I think making Bama travel 3000 miles helps Michigan), I feel the same way. I’m not worried or stressed at all. In fact, I think ‘Bama goes into this game overconfident, believing all the hype that Michigan is scared. Not stressed at all about this game. Especially since it’s not in the friendly confines of the Georgia Dome or any other SEC country stadium. I’m not sweating this game one bit.

An interesting thought regarding the CFP and TV contracts moving forward.

24/25 ESPN owns the CFP and the bowl system TV contracts.

26ff are all up for bid.

Joel Klatt brought this up on a very recent podcast.

Furthermore, the 3rd & 4th round CFP games haven't sold for 23/24. Why are they not getting the interest from the networks.

I suspect 2 reasons and could be more:

1. Everyone is pissed at ESPN and their control over CFB post season. As well how ESPN commands the SEC narrative...

Games at the highest seeds home field will explode revenues. Common sense.

2. Everyone is hesitant in that they do not want blow out games which are uncompetitive.

This then begs the question, (at least in my mind)
to ask, "Was the move to 12 teams rather than 8 teams the best move currently?

An 8 team play off should have put the quarterfinals and semi-finals at the higher seeds home field.

In this year's case Alabama would be at Michigan in the BIG House and Texas in Seattle.

These games would be epic and this is how the CFP should have been set up.

Home field is an advantage the higher seeded teams should have enjoyed IMHO.

But the 12 teams are where we're at.

Let's see how it plays out.

Won't post the article but

Bruce Feldman said Dante Moore would probably go to Michigan State. Sure he will Bruce ..sure he will. Seems like wishful thinking like harbaugh being gone. If you haven't caught my drift yet, I think we can now "Solidify" Bruce Feldman as a snake, a rat and an enemy! (As if we didn't know)

What is it Bo used to say? Termites in the walls. They are now everywhere man! 😂 Screw them all! Go Blue!

On Dante Moore

With apologies for starting yet another Dante Moore thread but felt this perspective shouldn’t be buried. (@Josh Henschke feel free to move this under your latest update thread)

This is a prime example of trusting UM’s coaches to manage their roster and, perhaps more important, their locker room / culture.

A week ago when the news broke of Moore entering the portal, I was convinced UM wouldn’t touch him with a 100’ pole after the mess he made of his recruitment out of high school. It’s no great secret Dante allowed his recruitment to be dictated by the economic motivations of other people. As a result, he found himself in a suboptimal situation at UCLA.

People change - especially 19 year olds, eventually they mature and they grow up.

Circumstances change - and often there are compelling, unseen reasons why a kid like Moore would want to be back closer to home.

I don’t know whether Moore will land at UM but today, with the benefit of a little more information, I’m very confident UM’s coaches wouldn’t be talking with Moore at all if they didn’t believe in the ability of people and circumstances to change.

Recruiting A 2024 prospect on the radar...

According to those at Schembechler and those close to the kid, Michigan saw 2024 EDGE Lugard Edokpayi in-home this week.

I know one of the coaches out there was Jesse Minter and I assume Mike Elston was as well considering Edokpayi is a defensive line prospect. Edokpayi was a recent offer that went under the radar a little bit.

According to those in the know, the staff like him a lot and think he'd be a great culture fit as well.

I know an official visit is in the works and I am working to nail down further details on what's next with those in his circle.
