Thoughts on Minter for 2024

I still think NFL DC is his logical next step. He interviewed for the Eagles last year, which was a great opportunity, and while it wasn't likely he would get the gig, it was a good experience to go through the process. While I think he could return next year, a few potential openings make a lot of sense.

Baltimore: Mike Macdonald is a hot name for future HC jobs after what he has done with the Ravens defense. If he were to leave, Minter following Macdonald again and returning to Baltimore makes a lot of football sense.

Cincinnati: Lou Anarumo could get some looks this offseason as well. He's on the older side, which has not been the MO for NFL hires as of late, but he was also an HC candidate last season. Minter spent the second half of his childhood in Cinci while his dad was a coach at UC, he also went to college in the area.

Cowboys: Dan Quinn has been an HC candidate the last two cycles and either turned down offers or did not get an offer, depending on who you read. Still have to think he could leave this season and although there aren't any obvious connections with Minter and Dallas, if they were interested it would be hard to turn down the chance to coach the Cowboys, especially with some of the players they have on that side of the ball.

Detroit: I still see Aaron Glenn listed as an HC candidate, which is kind of wild to me given the inconsistent results from the Lions. And if he doesn't get a job, you wonder if Detroit would move on from him this offseason? Lions obviously have been able to take a good look at Minter and he would have a chance to move to the NFL without having to move.

Recruiting Intel: Confidence check on Gatlin Bair

The race for 2024 wide receiver Gatlin Bair is a funny thing, as soon as he committed to Boise State, the immediate feeling here was that it wasn't over, it had only just begun.

Fast-forward to now, and credit to Michigan for not giving up here, the program could benefit from playing the long game with Bair and not giving up.

Coming out of his decommitment from Boise, Bair made it clear that he would be focusing on U-M and Oregon. There was a reason why Bair likely had the Wolverines as a leader until he decided to stay closer to home during his original commitment announcement. Now, coming out of his impressive visit against Ohio State and the subsequent in-home, I am starting to see a much clearer picture as to where this could be headed.

I am very close to placing an official prediction for Bair to U-M. I think the things that impressed Bair so much during the summer, which included a relationship with Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines' strength & conditioning program, remain unchanged. If a decision were to be made today, I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say it would be U-M. I know a handful of current commits feel good about where things stand currently.

One of the major pauses that Bair had about U-M initially was about the NCAA investigation and Harbaugh's future. What's going to happen with both?

I get the sense that things were made very clear about the investigation itself during the in-home and Harbaugh's future is always a point of interest.

In my OPINION, the sooner this contract stuff gets over the finish line, the sooner Bair will become a Wolverine. I want to be clear, I am NOT saying that the contract talks are impacting recruiting or forcing players to look elsewhere, I am saying that a sense of security will help ease Bair's decision, in my semi-informed OPINION.

I also don't get the sense that Oregon is going to give up, either. They will continue to push until there is a decision made. Dan Lanning is personally taking over this recruitment, as Harbaugh is as well.

Bair still plans to sign in February, so there is plenty of time but, right now, I really like where things stand with U-M.

I read an article that a Big 12 writer wrote

saying they believe that the B1g 12 can get FSU, Clemson & Miami.

I about fell off my chair laughing at his logic.

Those are name brand schools who have a history of winning.

Sure Miami as of late, too long because Miami lost their edge
when the Orange Bowl Stadium was torn down. Miami MUST BUILD
an on-campus stadium, possibly 35,000 to 45,000 would be ideal for them.

When Miami does this, this would be good for their program.

Way OT: For the lawyers here... re: Porch Pirates

it's that time of year again where porch pirates have a field day stealing other peoples things. My question is this......

If you catch a porch pirate in the act, what are you allowed to do that won't get you jail time? Can you tackle them and punch them in the face? What is the protocol exactly, because I'm preparing myself for that moment I've been waiting for all my life?!

Had lunch in Richmond today with

two former UVA football coaches. Both agreed that UVA are indeed tied to VA Tech should either move to another conference. Their feelings are strong regarding this because of their time coaching at UVA. They said there is most assuredly B1G interest in UVA and vice versa.

Both agreed that UVA academics fit the B1G and their research would be bolstered from the B1G Academic Alliance.

Then the other coach said don't sleep on Va Tech. Said their engineering school is very good as well as their medical school. Said other schools are respectable.

Both agreed that they would be a good fit in the B1G and a disaster in the SEC. At issue is coaches at UVA are pushing for the SEC while academics prefer the B1G.

They both agreed that the SEC is after UNC first and foremost. The SEC thinks that they can force the VA AG and Legislature to allow UVA & VA Tech to split up. Both said the SEC will lose that fight.

Everyone knows the B1G wants some ACC schools and to move into Florida. The University of Florida is entrenched in the SEC, they're not leaving.

No one knows how things will play out. We will see what occurs as things move forward.

In closing, both coaches agreed they would love to see the B1G grab both Miami and FSU. They agreed that Miami has very good academics and FSU is heavily investing to have top tier academics and research.

I responded, we shall see, far too many moving parts. This will not happen fast Greg at CFB Peek Around The Corner has the inside track. In fact, he said the future UNC Chancellor will determine where UNC goes, this is what his booster sources at UNC have told him.

Both coaches love what Harbaugh is doing at Michigan. Said, they hope Michigan bludgeons Alabama to mush. Said they love the downhill and physicality Michigan plays with.

Football A quick comment on this portal cycle…

Was speaking to some folks about this current portal cycle and there’s a possibility that it could be a bit light in numbers at this point compared to last year.

There’s a possibility that the staff may assess needs once spring comes around and they see what they have. Also, it depends on who enters the portal they like as well.

There weren’t any positions mentioned where that will happen but something to keep in mind in the back of your heads moving forward.
