Insider Close doesn’t cut it in the end…

However, as of yesterday, ND and Michigan people felt like Bowden was headed to Ann Arbor.

Freeman was supposed to be on the road recruiting today and back in on the office on Friday but the two spoke earlier as Freeman knew the seriousness of the situation.

Ultimately that talk ended up being the difference.

Michigan was close but not close enough.

A few names to keep in mind (DC types)

Six names off the top of my head ...

Brian Duker, Detroit DBs
Jason Brooks, Pittsburgh QC
Sterling Lucas, South Carolina DL/OLB
Roy Anderson, Pete Carrol's Seattle DBs
John Egorugwu, NYG ILB
Matt Robinson, Baltimore QC
Daniel Stern, Baltimore QC

All of these guys can be traced back to Baltimore's staff in the last handful of years

The Baltimore tree covers much of the league now.

Many teams involved. These guys just seemed the most likely due to age and positional experience

Moore on Michigan, "I'm gonna run it my way."

Sherrone Moore on a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee show discussed the dream come true of taking over Michigan, Harbaugh, what will be the same and what will be different at Michigan, and how this program will be run his way.

Insider Intel: Inside Sherrone Moore's pursuit of a key Notre Dame staffer

Things are flying in at a mile a minute so I apologize for all the threads and different updates, this is what happens when you are in the midst of coaching search season.

As hinted earlier, Sherrone Moore is making a run at Notre Dame Director of Recruiting Chad Bowden and we're told it's a significant one.

The two started talking this week and conversations continue into Tuesday as interest is very much mutual at this point. We're told that Moore is swinging for the fences when it comes to Bowden. With Director of Player Personnel Tom Gamble leaving the program, likely following Jim Harbaugh to Los Angeles, Moore is offering the role to Bowden which would be a step up compared to what he has in South Bend.

This includes a significant pay raise, increased staff, and, of course, an increased role. It's an offer that Bowden can't ignore.

However, the big pull for Bowden to remain in South Bend is his friendship and loyalty to Marcus Freeman. The two have been working together for years at various stops and both are very good friends. The Irish will do whatever it takes to keep him, so it's not going to be as easy as simply letting him go.

We're told that Freeman plans to speak to Bowden one-on-one at some point and there should be some finality to this sooner rather than later, just depends on when the talk happens.

Moore is swinging for the fences but the Irish won't go down without a fight.

Stay tuned.

Guys, I'm worried 😉

Kenneth Grant just posted his and Mason Graham highlights on Instagram. It can only mean one thing...

Big KG is psyching out our fan base. Fr fr he about to go to Texas and he's playing reverse psychology😂😂😂😂😂 oh noooooos 😂

I don't know. Maybe I need to take a step back and take three deep breaths and chill, and realize everyone in the program is doing everything they can to be great 👍

It's Good News wednesday! 1-31-24

My good news today is that there is no bombshell bad news.

I hope it means new staffers will soon be announced, and we can all set our sights on spring ball.

The weather has been beautiful the last few days, and I've been trying to be outside as much as possible.

I'm one of three guys at church rotating the teaching of Acts until the end of June. I just had my first week last week, and it went well. I had Acts 2:42 thru 3:26. I have 8 Sundays I'm responsible for.

All my issues right now are first-world problems. I admit I haven't loved a lot of stuff that's going down with my beloved football program, but in the scheme of life, it has minimal impact on anything that can affect my household.

I have a great wife, fantastic kids, a granddaughter I love from here to the moon and back, my mom and stepdad that I adore, and a nice business.

Life is full of good news.

What's yours?

Insider Intel: 1/31 update on Elston and Clink

Continue to dig on the status of Mike Elston and Steve Clinkscale, both are currently on the road recruiting for Michigan the past few days.

I have always been told to never that take that as an ultimate sign whether a guy is staying or going because a guy can pull himself off the road whenever a move is done.

However, after speaking with some folks, it appears that “all signs” point to Elston staying on board but nothing definitive has been said.

As for Clink, I haven’t heard anything as definitive as Elston right now but continue to hear optimism that he’ll remain on board. I wouldn’t take the lack of opinions between Elston and Clink as a sign of trouble.

More when I have it.
