Insider Intel: Sherrone Moore going after Big 12 staffer for off-field role

With Chad Bowden officially sticking around with Notre Dame, Sherrone Moore hasn't necessarily put his eggs all in one basket, another name has emerged as someone to watch out for a potential Director of Player Personnel role.

Multiple sources have confirmed that Moore has spoken with Iowa State DPP Derek Hoodjer for a role in Ann Arbor and with Bowden turning the Wolverines down, it's becoming more clear that he would offer Hoodjer the same role that Bowden was considering.

What isn't clear at the moment is how serious the talks are and how advanced things are going. Sources at ISU are saying that no mention of the discussion with Moore has taken place currently and he's out on the road recruiting for the Cyclones as the program is down a handful of position coaches.

What we have learned, though, is Hoodjer would be an easier pull from the program compared to Bowden. We have been told by ISU sources that Hoodjer would be open to new experiences given a raise and an increase in responsibility, despite being with the ISU program for several years.

More on this when I have it.

Michigan Basketball remaining schedule

10 games left: Looking for some wins.

rutgers
Very winnable, team fairly similar to us, poorly coached. Weak on offense. Us defense.

wisconsin
Loss. Much better coach and program. Players play hard and are smart. 180 from us.

@ nebraska
Loss. Tough building, they are a better program right now.

@ ilinois: ugly loss. After being like 16-3 against them in Beilein's last 19 games against them, they completely own us.

msu
Might have a chance at home. Hard to sweep a rival or at least that was the excuse used when we were the much better team and didn't.

@northwestern
Howard is 7-0 versus northwestern. They are the better team and program now.

purdue
No chance whatsoever.

@rutgers
Winnable, but a road game.

@ ohio state
Battle of two coaches that probably will be fired. Winnable, but a road game.

nebraska
They might need it for their tourney bid.

I think we get maybe 2 wins (rutgers and @ rutgers/nebraska)

Thoughts on Sherrone Moore

Hey everyone!

Hope all is well with everyone! As you all know, for the first time in 26 years, we are National Champions! We are number one and at the top. As a Michigan fan and alum, I’m proud! It’s something no one can take from us.

I know Harbaugh is gone! Like all of you, I was extremely disappointed he left and how he left. I wished he would’ve stayed a little longer, but I understand why he did it. He’s 60 years old, accomplished something that even his mentor Bo Schembechler never could, and wants to chase his NFL dream while he still can. I feel he will do well,

At the same time, Michigan just made history in hiring its first African American Head Football Coach in school history. As an American American myself, I am proud. Not only is Moore qualified for the job, his background is really, really good. The man is a winner and I feel we all need to embrace him, support him, support the team, and just relax. I understand the concerns, but I feel those concerns are not warranted because he already proved himself both as an OL coach, an OC, and as acting HC last season, during our historic season. The team that’s coming back will still be really good, his coaching moves so far have been good, and I think Michigan will do way better than what most think.

So believe, have faith, be positive, and Go Blue!!!

God bless you all, my friends!!!

Insider Intel: More on Mike Hart…

Been asked a lot about Mike Hart and whether he will be on Sherrone Moore’s staff.

The major takeaway is that there still is not any clarity whether he is staying or going, it’s certainly no sure thing. His lack of involvement on the recruiting trail is not related to his future plans, either.

As we’re all aware, Hart has aspirations to rise the coaching ranks and hasn’t been shy about wanting to explore them. It would not come as a surprise to learn he’s been pursuing options.

However, there is still an avenue for Hart to return to Michigan, it’s going to take some meeting in the middle for that to happen. That’s all I can really say about that.

I’ll continue to dig moving forward.

Insider Intel: Another offensive coach in the mix

Sherrone Moore is currently working to build out his staff on both sides of the ball and we are told that conversations have picked up with one particular candidate, one who has some familiarity with the Michigan program.

We are told that conversations have been picking up with UMass offensive coordinator Steve Casula.

If that name sounds familiar, Casula was an analyst for Michigan in 2019 and 2020 and moved with Don Brown to UMass to be OC/QB coach in ‘21.

I’m not sure which position he is up for, I assume TE coach but will continue to get more info.

Random question for Josh

How much does a coaching change affect your day-to-day insider contacts? It seems like some people who are fairly connected to the program now have been quiet on things and slow to share the news. You have been more on top of things and breaking news quickly. Curious how many sources are attached to the coach where once the coach leaves, the source is gone

@Josh Henschke

I hope Moore takes the helmet stickers off and gets rid of the white pants

Since there is a lot of hand wringing about what Coach Moore does, I thought i'd throw in my two superficial requests. Since he's the headman now, I hope Coach Moore gives the helmets their clean look back. I never liked the white pants and hope they are axed as well. Maize or blue pants on the road looks great. Of course, this is all really what the players want, but if I could wave a wand...

The only superficial change that Jim made that I really loved was the blue endzones in the big house.
