Recruiting 2025 OL Avery Gach narrows list to top 4

Feel pretty good about Michigan here, but it's a Big Ten battle with Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.
Gach was in Ann Arbor this weekend for the spring game.

Recruiting What the commitment of Nate Marshall means for Michigan's class of 2025

Michigan football gained its fourth verbal commit of the 2025 class on Monday in four-star DE Nate Marshall.

Breaking down the impact of Marshall's commitment and what it means for the Wolverines' class of 2025:

Four-star TE Mack Sutter has 'unreal experience' in Ann Arbor

Mack Sutter is certainly a name to know in the 2026 class for Michigan fans. The Dunlap, Illinois, standout is one of two four-star TEs in the state for the 2026 cycle. JC Anderson is the other and he was also on campus for the spring game. Sutter described his trip with a lot of excitement.

"It was awesome, unreal experience!"

I asked him further about what made the trip so memorable.

"The fans! They were so engaged and supportive of their players," Sutter said.

It's pretty unique that he was on campus with the other four-star player at his position from his home state. Sutter told me that He loves going places with Anderson and the pair get along really well. Up next for Sutter is a trip to Nebraska for the spring game.

Whatever Happened To…

… Vladislav Goldin, the 7-2 center who was supposed to be following Dusty from FAU to Michigan? In fact, there were 3 of his former players who wanted to transfer. Did any of them make it thru Admissions? Are there any scholarships left? Will we have to process some players to accept any additional transfers?

If I’m behind the news cycle, I apologize.

Recruiting Intel: More intel on Marquise Davis

Spoke to the head coach of Marquise Davis today, who let me know that Marquise Davis is set to be on campus at some point this evening. Which is obviously good news as I posted yesterday that Michigan has been picking up some buzz consistently in recent weeks.

On top of that, I was informed that he has ANOTHER overnight visit scheduled in the coming weeks, his coach just wasn't sure what date that would be.

Obviously, extremely good news as the staff is looking to close this one out.

Checking in…

So how we feeling about our hires in the major sports…

Football
Basketball
Hockey
Baseball
Softball

Juwan was pretty much a disaster but Dusty could be really good. Sherrone + big assistant money looks good. Hockey returned to its third straight frozen four. Baseball and softball seemed to have rebounded a bit to where they were heading into the year….

Thinking we seem on pretty solid ground right now. Your thoughts?

It's Good News Wednesday! 4-17-24

My good news is the spring game is almost here. While we all know it's just a scrimmage, seeing the winged helmet in action is always good.

I'm heading to Tampa next week to catch the Tigers and the Rays.

I have finished my plans for a bike ride in early May. We will ride the Cheif Ladiga / Silver Comet trail (out and back) for a few days.

The weather is spectacular here, and I can't be outside enough.

Work is busy, and the family is good.

What's your good news?

Go Blue!

Basketball New transfer portal prediction 4/22

After doing some digging, I feel comfortable placing an official transfer portal prediction in favor of Michigan for Alabama freshman power forward Sam Walters.

He was on campus over the weekend and what else needs to be said at this point, Dusty May is absolutely killing it.

With Vlad Goldin still needing to announce, Michigan’s front court is looking very strong.

Looking at the bright side, I have a feeling that…..

Michigan could have a recruiting class for the ages next year-the Class of 2026 prospects?

Why?

1. Coming off a three year run of great football and so-so recruiting there will be a talent void that will need to be replenished.

2. 2026 class will be the first one not impacted by the annual Harbaugh “will he stay or will he go” uncertainty.

3. The new staff will have an entire cycle to develop relationships with the 2026 targets.

4. Michigan brand as strong as ever. Afterglow of national championship and good chance to make the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season.

5. Moore bulking up the recruiting department.

6. Class of 2026 marks a class that since 6th grade has yet to see Michigan lose to Ohio State. Michigan has been, along with Georgia, at the top of the college football pyramid the past three years. They are just the beginning of a new generation of youngsters who are used to seeing Michigan as a national player.

7. Beat Ohio State next season and it could be the End of Day(s) for Ohio State.

8. Most importantly, with the new Virginia law allowing schools to make direct NIL payments to athletes, I am convinced that revenue sharing will be in place for the 2026 class. There will still be indirect NIL payments, but if Michigan is paying each player NIL of, say, $100,000 per year, it will somewhat even out the steep slope that Michigan is currently having a hard time climbing.

Virginia’s new NIL law will go into effect either July or November of this year. At least two other states are drafting similar laws. Once they go into effect the NCAA will have no choice but to allow all the schools to offer direct NIL. Their hand will be forced, much as it was three years ago when they had to cave in to the first set of NIL laws.

And, even better, this will force Warde’s hand to pay out direct NIL from Michigan’s coffers. At that point he really won’t have a choice. Thank God.
