Great effort by the defensive side

They played very well. It's obvious what the issue is hence the BU sweepstakes. Just got get to 6 wins. Moore knows he can't win alot games without better QB play. Just got to take our medicine this year. Yep it sucks. We had our chances to win this game. We could of won 4-5 games we lost definitely at least three. Aweful QB play killed us again. Onward.

LSU

Today's game really couldn't have gone better for Michigan.

LSU got BLOWN OUT by Alabama.

The atmosphere sucked. The stadium was empty by Q4.

LSU didn't even get in the endzone.

This happened in Year 3 of Brian Kelly.

Massive difference as compared to Year 1 struggles in the Sheronne Moore situation which largely are the product of recruiting issues that predate his tenure.

Glancing back through some box scores....

Its amazing how quickly and profoundly the most fundamentally sound team in the country became a fundamentals train wreck.

We host Texas and give an elite team the ball THREE times inside our 50 (results in only 10 points). Down 14-3 we throw an interception to give them the ball at the 37. Defense holds, then our all-american tight end sets the ball on the ground unforced. Now 24-3. Ballgame.

Take away those turnovers and what kind of a game is it?

USC we're clinging to a 20-17 lead and on first and ten from our 12. Fumble Edwards. Almost give the game away save for Mullings miraculous run.

Minnesota - We start Minnesota's rally while up 24-3 missing a wide open receiver. Like USC, we barely escape the miscue.

Washington. Hand the game to the Huksies with two fourth quarter turnovers in our own zone the first of which occurs the game is tied 17-17. They convert those own zone turnovers for the 10 decisive points.

Illinois might be the most ridiculous. Halftime score 13-7 Illinois. 3 of those 13 were handed to them on a Tuttle fumble at our 25. Defense held for the field goal.

In the second half their only score came from us giving them a free path to a fake punt that put them at the 16 yard line. Everything else was a stop.

We manage to get a field goal blocked and throw a pick near the goal line.

Finally, in our eighth game of the season we play our first turnover free game of the year and beat State. We repeat against Oregon and despite being down our top two corners are in a fourth quarter game with the number one team in the country.

Its really profound how big an impact turnovers had on this season. This after being elite the previous two years (18 total 22, 23 lowest in the country across those two years).

The difference between knowing how to take care of the ball and not at all knowing how to take care of the ball (plus a free pass fake punt allowed) is what doomed this team from not having a shot at a good season.

Young quarterbacks are one thing....but the Loveland and Edwards' game impacting own zone turnovers? What the heck?

Hope this was a blip and something we never see again under Moore.

Football Sherrone Moore: Running back reps against IU due to practice performance

Michigan running back Kalel Mullings only touched the ball one time in the first half in the Wolverines' 20-15 loss to No. 8 Indiana on Saturday.

Head coach Sherrone Moore gave his reasoning behind the running back splits against IU and explained a critical third quarter redzone decision in his postgame press conference:

Davis Warren!

I marvel at the almost instant change of direction in Michigan fans' opinions (including my own) on Davis Warren being a QB that we can look at and, due to his performance against #1 Oregon, expect 2 TDs and no INTs vs a ranked opponent.

This week will be the next step in the evolution of Mr. Warren as a Michigan QB. Can he play well on the road? Keep the no turnover streak going?

That said, Oregon's defensive backfield is full of seniors and grad transfers led by a top tier CB, and Warren had to play against all of them (they weren't on the sidelines). He held up great against that secondary.

But if we see the Warren of last week or better @ IU, I will be thrilled regardless of outcome.

It's amazing that some of the same people bemoaning the coaching staff "not putting the ball in the hands of DW", were at that game's kickoff of the belief that Davis Warren "was not a Division 1 QB". Then, with unintended irony the same people complain about "lack of improvement anywhere on the team".

Without a doubt, I am really impressed that the coaching staff and Davis himself worked hard to fix Davis Warren's INT issues in the matter of a few weeks.
I know that there were a few posters who agreed with me when I posted that Warren was salvageable as a QB, pointing out his accuracy otherwise.

Now that the INT issue is hopefully over, he's not so bad for those who thought he shouldn't get another chance.

Wink Martindale.

I think that Wink knows this D well, but the player flow has been inconsistent due to injuries.

I have a feeling that Wink's real issue was communicating this D to 18, 19-eyar olds vs professionals.

He may not be the natural teacher that Macdonald and Minter were. In addition, Mac and Minter were much closer in age to the players than Wink.

Maybe Wink's adjusting and the young men are adjusting, but perhaps a younger or already "college savvy" DC (one who assists in recruiting) would be the move for next season. I always had the feeling that Wink would be a rental DC for one reason (success and move back to NFL) or another (failure to connect).

The not really a recruiter thing doesn't fit at all with the staff, but I feel that Moore knew he needed experience somewhere on that side of the ball.
