The longer Jim doesn't get hired by an NFL team...

...the better I feel about him coming back. Heard this on the most recent Cover 3 podcast, but it makes sense. If you're an NFL team, I feel like you either want Harbaugh that badly or you don't. You make it happen immediately to lock him up and, paradoxically, prevent him from staying at Michigan. Why wait if you're the Chargers? So he can maybe go to Washington, Atlanta, or stay at Michigan? No. You roll out the red carpet and give him the keys to the kingdom immediately. I feel like odds are increasing, as every day passes, that he stays.

The reported immunity clauses requested by Harbaugh is another wrinkle. The NCAA changed the rules related to suspensions, penalties for head coaches, etc. if anyone on the staff commits a violation. I believe many coaches will start to request these clauses. I just think this is Harbaugh wanting more protection and is smart. I do not believe it is some ploy to make it look like Michigan fu**ed up in the event he leaves. I think it is a pragmatic move, especially if you're in JH's shoes.

Just my $0.02.

Recruiting 2027 ATH Saniiyn Black 'couldn't stop smiling' after receiving U-M offer

“I am 100% blessed and thankful for the offer."

Class of 2027 ATH Saniiyn Black received his very first D1 offer this week, coming from Michigan.

Black discussed how that made him feel, his relationship with teammate and Michigan target DJ Pickett, and more:

Too early 2024 Michigan Football defense depth chart

The NFL declaration deadline has passed, and Team 145 is taking shape.
Despite losing some long-time starters, Michigan's defense could be the best in the nation again.
How the depth chart is shaking out, and questions for each position group.

One More thing ...

The dalliance with the NFL is also hurting Moore, Minter and the staff in a couple ways. Obviously if he goes and if Michigan were to elevate Moore he would be paid as a HC but whomever is a assistant coach on a new and building staff is going to get far less than if it were wrapped in a "Harbaugh staff package" they have literally said he will get one of the highest paid assistant pool in the nation... so this process is having real impact on the rest of the department as well as the recruits, portal transfer players etc. you referenced earlier

Q on the Don TDs

On the TDs against PSU, and Washington (x2) DE started towards the interior line, found it clogged then bounced to big holes to the outside. Was the initial path to the middle by design or did it just work out well that the opponents lost contain when DE headed up the middle?

Minter over Moore?

If Jim leaves, how about Warde promoting Jesse Minter as the head coach? We need a great defense in the Big Ten and Minter has proven that he can have great defenses.

I know the almost unanimous expectation is for Moore to get the HC gig but what if Minter can be our Kirby Smart. A great defensive mind and maybe Minter can hire a great upcoming OC or Sherrone stays at OC. Just an idea I thought of.

Football Michigan has been preparing for Bama since January, says Minter

Michigan DC Jesse Minter says Michigan hasn't faced a team like Alabama, but they've been preparing since January.
It's called the "Beat Georgia" drill, but it was about getting ready for an elite opponent, something Michigan has been doing all year.

Insider It's been crickets...

Nothing to report either way on HarbaughWatch 2024. Crickets since the weekend and nothing of real significance to come out of his interview with the Falcons.

If you want some scuttlebutt to fuel you, something that hasn't been necessarily verified with other sources: We are told that the Falcons interview was a courtesy and the expectation is no further meetings or phone calls will take place between the two parties.

Again, that's some rumors we've picked up and not anything we have verified with others.

What we have verified with others, though, is no new news. Is no news good news? We'll see.

Based on the Wetzel Report.

It appears that Ward and Jim do not have a good relationship. There has been much speculation, but this is the first hard evidence I have seen. Singling out the AD and asking for arbitration instead of giving the AD hiring and firing power over any NCAA issues clearly makes a statement about the relationship.

If the AD is the main impediment to getting this done, I'd let him go. I don't have a particular axe to grind with Warde, but if it's Warde or Jim, bye, Warde.

One of a Kind

I am beginning to have concerns about life after Harbaugh.

From the time after Lloyd Carr until JH arrived, it was tough for Michigan to hit the right recipe and regain on field success. JJ brought life and stability back to Michigan Football.

And while he did it, he did it is his own quarky way. Recruiting pranks, khakis, always wearing hat, who's got it better than us, etc etc.

While he was doing this, he had ups and downs, flirted with NFL, possibly broke NCAA rules, never attracted the highest level recruiting successes and developed a style of football that only Michigan used to win championships.

No other coach could do what he did and play the style he has to win a championship. To me, he is truly one of a kind.

I am not sure me, or this fan base is ready for Life After Jim Harbaugh. I am afraid we will all will discover quickly how good we had it with him here and maintaining this level is going to be extremely unrealistic. I just don't see it being done.

I like Coach Moore and think he gets first shot. My guess is he is a 3 year experiment that has mixed results, doesn't recruit with the big boys and probably settles into the 8-4 seasons that place you on outside of this playoffs. Boy, I hope i am wrong.

This leads to firings, new hires, trying to recreate what JH has done and we become less of an attraction for the highest.level HS talent that is out there.

Jim, don't leave. JH is a the face of a program as much as any coach there is and this programs wins because of that. The next chapter of Michigan football concerns me and I don't want to see a program going from top of mountain to levels of pre JH..
