I posted months ago that Howard deserved to be fired for his erratic behavior, but I allowed myself to be talked down to giving him another year due to his serious heart condition led to him being absent for most of this lost year. However, upon learning the details of the Sanderson incident and subsequent unceremonious firing today, all I am is mad at myself for once again not trusting my first instincts about a topic, issue, person, dilemma, or crisis. My first inclinations are, I won’t claim “always right”, because on rare occasions I have been incorrect, largely due to my emotions clouding up my ability to see the facts with rationalist objectivity, or the times I obtained faulty primary data that caused me to draw conclusions without the basis supported by multiple sourced and verified factual data.

I was spot on about Juwan: he’s a good NBA “man’s league” coach, but he is not the guy to lead and coach young men at the University of Michigan. I stated that long before he lost his shite again in front of the whole team because Sanderson dared to treat his son like everyone else on the team. The “had to be held back by players and staff” revelation only served to cause me to lose more respect for Juwan than I already had previously. It’s just a sad ending to what began as a mostly positive beginning. Warde, Prez Rock-n-Roll Ono, and the regents must prioritize hiring a big name highly regarded “program saver” who is known for restoring a big name school‘s quickly back to the top. Who that is, I have no clue, as basketball is a distant 4th in the 4 major sports in America for me. Football 1st, Baseball 2nd, Hockey 3rd, and if MLS ever gets it act together as far as broadcasting deals that make new fans, not exclude all but the hardcore fans by using Apple TV as the home for MLS. Taking off the training wheels and let clubs compete to sign players with no restrictions would definitely help Fútbol pass Basketball as 4th. Why? Because today’s basketball sucks the way it is played and officiated. There is zero physicality in the game, and you might as well spell defense in Latin, a dead language, because it’s fitting that defense in basketball is as dead as Latin. Watching teams jack up 35 3s a game and play nothing but “pick and roll” because the refs won’t let players even body up a guy..well fellas…I find Curling World Championships far more interesting. Regardless of my disinterest in the sport, I do want Michigan to have a good program and make the tournament. Michigan ties cannot be a factor in this next hire. They need a name guy with a proven track record. Anything less would be a major mistake in my opinion.

OT: for my military Den members: when I was going “Never Lift” in the middle of my last research assignment, I found a cool site for vets and military reporters that covers EVERYTHING in small one page evaluations that are very fair about our new weapons systems, those of our allies, and our adversaries. Solid coverage with a few things I don’t like: 1). the journalism is a bit too casual and gung ho for my preferences. 2). The site seems somewhat anti-Biden, which I find ironic, as those of us of the “blue hue” have a long running joke that Joe Biden hasn’t seen a defense budget or a national defense funding bill he didn’t approve regardless of party. Dems far more left than I view his rep as a “Warhawk“, and a big reason they don’t like him..citing his unwavering support of Israel over Gaza as an example. Well theyre usually too young to remember the Yom Kippur War, The 6 Day War, The Suez Crisis, and both Lebanon Wars instigated by the PLO. I remember them. War is abhorrent, revolting, indefensible, and absolutely necessary. Biden is right to support such a valuable ally that has been under attack since 1949. Lastly, didn’t Biden just submit nearly a 900 billion dollar defense budget that gave an unheard of 4.5% raise for all our servicemen and women? I don’t know..I don’t mean to make political comments…but he’s been accused of being a republican by his own party over decades for his support of the military. Just seems odd to me. It seems like the current talk is that Howard won’t be retained and that talk has picked up in recent days. It appears to be just talk at the moment.

I haven’t gotten anything definitive because the talk of Howard being kept is still around but not as strong at the moment.

Perhaps it’s an echo chamber right now but we’ll see.

Spring football is just around the corner. I'm excited to hear the latest news about young guys making their marks.

This may not initially sound like good news but it really is.

My mother-in-law passed away on Saturday night. She was 92 and lived a great life. She was married for 70 years to the same man and raised four great-kids. She graduated from South Carolina with a degree in Education. My father-in-law also graduated from SC, where he played both football and baseball. She taught Kindergarten for 30 years and then traveled the world. They have a beautiful home on a lake where we spent years laughing and building memories. She was a Christian woman who knew exactly where she was headed.

She was the biggest sports fan in the family, and I have photographic proof of her watching college football on her iPhone at her granddaughters' wedding. I know she was thinking the same thing I was: Who in their right mind gets married on a Saturday during football season?

Four lessons I learned from her.
Dessert is for more than just special occasions. Celebrate every meal.
If there is no ice cream, it's not a proper dessert.
If you aren't laughing, you aren't living.
Jesus is the answer.

Last year was challenging as she began to fail physically and mentally. Near the end, she was ready to go and confessed she had no desire to "hang on." We all got to say our goodbyes through tears and heartbreak, but our memories will be of all the good times. We will all face the end someday. I just hope I have the class and courage to go out like her.

She lived a wonderful life; anyone who knew her could see Christian love in everything she did. I'm happy for her; I know she is fully restored, and all the worries of this life are gone. That is very good news.

Santa Ono needs to put some pressure on Warde to make the move or both Warde & Juwan should go.
Heck, the Utah State AD made their women's basketball coach announce to the press that she had been fired after the Aggies lost in the MWC tournament. Warde is slow and my patience can't take it(not that have much patience to start with).

Doesn't think he will get the job, but expects him to interview.

Probably not full time, but this is really sickening.

Man - emotionally perhaps but none of the numbers and results, improvement or development for individuals or the team are visible or work in his favor.

There's no evidence that he should stay for another year other than emotions - Players or perhaps Warde. That's sad and I do put that on Coach and Warde .

Ides of March - the 15th...we'll see if we hear anything by tomorrow night...PR release at 8:47 PM seems about the right timing
