College Basketball

Mens college basketball is broken, college basketball is no longer that next tier from high school basketball that showcases the somewhat purest form of the game while wowing us with the naturally gifted young men who capture our imagination with all their awe inspiring abilities and teamwork….now it’s all about the money that has even believe it or not has permeated even down to the grassroots level (high school).

What we’re witnessing is pro basketball with a built in minor league system where those with the know how and money aided by the newly created transfer portal harvest players to create talented well aged teams with a sprinkle of prep players, just look at UConn with their 2nd year center and 5th year seniors and transfers playing a team like Purdue who had a senior stiff in the middle and a team built the right way with sophomores and a juniors against grown arse men and for what it’s worth in my opinion made for a terrible game.

The NCAA with all their efforts to regulate sports have through their greed open the door to this fiasco that is college basketball where the student athletes is a thing of the past this is the wild, wild west no one’s getting an education, and for the life of me I can’t figure out who’s on who’s team or if I’m watching the G-League or some FIBA basketball but hey at least they have a draft and don’t hide behind the guise of amateurism.

Insider Intel: Dusty May closing in on final assistant?

Dusty May has at least one name that he is pursuing for the final basketball assistant spot to go with Mike Boynton Jr. and Akeem Miskdeen.

We're told that Tennessee assistant Rod Clark's name has emerged as a potential candidate for the third assistant coach role.

Clark joined the Vols during the 2021 season before stops at Austin Peay and University of Illinois at Chicago. Clark is a young name, in his early 30s.

There does appear to be some sort of snag in talks, though, as its unclear whether Tennessee is working to keep him or something else. For the sake of transparency, he was suspended for two games this season for an unspecified NCAA violation.

Insider Spring practice intel: Bonus notes

Surprise! I have some bonus notes from practice on Friday since it was a light week for the team.

Here's what we're hearing.

- Scrimmage the entire practice on Friday.
- Quarterbacks continue to be a 'work in progress' and Jack Tuttle is not fully practicing yet
- As for who won the day, it was considered a 'draw' between offense and defense, with both sides of the ball getting the better of each other at various points.
- People are guzzling the Jaishawn Barham Kool-Aid with one observer saying that he could play for the Lions right now, it's something that is very apparent to those who watch him.
- Rod Moore is looking like a 7+ month recovery time.
- Quinten Johnson is not practicing with the team right now as he is not enrolled in school yet, will enroll in the spring semester and will be back with the program in full force.
- Biggest takeaway from one practice observer is DL coach Lou Esposito and what he brings to the field. His 'fire' while coaching was something that is really impressive. He's maybe had two or three practices with the team so far.

- Quick freshman nugget, we're told that Cole Sullivan doesn't look like a freshman. Unsure whether that's in body composition or play, perhaps a little bit of both.

That's all I have for now.

Spring game tickets?

Spring game has always been over kids’ spring break so have never been able to attend. Loving that they pushed it back. Plan on taking my senior son so I was trying to find info on this but couldn’t find anything. Do we need tickets for this? If so where do we purchase? How busy does it get? Where will we park? Thanks!

Recruiting Four-star 2025 WR Taz Williams sets OV to Michigan

Class of 2025 four-star WR Taz Williams has scheduled an official visit to Michigan. He is also set to take an unofficial to Ann Arbor on April 7, so the Wolverines will get to host him twice within a short span. Ron Bellamy is doing a nice job with this recruitment and Michigan is squarely in the mix as things stand now.
