Friday night, I was about two hours from home at a high school football game where I have a friend who coaches. I left my phone in the car and I went back to get it. I went to the passager side and as I reached in I set my keys on the seat because I want to put my pocket knife in the glove box. This is a 2005 Trailblazer and the lock button on the fob has quit working, so when I get out I hit the lock button on the door. As I was hitting the lock button and closing the door, I realized my keys were on the seat, but it was too late.
I went to the game and afterward, I got the local cops to help me but they didn't know if they could get it open because technically, this vehicle is registered in my wife's name. Finally, after running my license, getting the coaching staff involved, and talking to the police chief, they opened the car and I was on my way.
I think it helped that the team is undefeated and looked really good that night. Everyone was in good spirits.
Saturday, I had a spare made and I picked up one of those magnet cases. Needless to say, in those situations, you really feel stupid.
