Insider Henschke's Quick Hitters 11/17 Part 2: How Michigan is treating Thanksgiving as a family event

Welcome back to a bonus episode of HQH. I was told a cool story that I thought I would share and you all would appreciate.

Let's get started.

- The team is very focused on what's ahead of them, the idea is to take care of business through 11/26 and to avoid any slip-ups along the way.
- With Thanksgiving next week, the idea is to have a planned meal after practice on Thursday.
- The story that I thought was cool was that staff members started an email chain inquiring about parents that will be in town for Thanksgiving. It appears that there are 10 families with wide open doors for Thanksgiving this year, so anyone on the team that doesn't have a place to go this year, which is quite a few, will go celebrate with them. An open invitation for any and all to come so they won't be alone for Thanksgiving.
- This supports the idea that the team is very tight-knit and family-like, which extends beyond the players and the staff.

New FutureCast prediction 11/17

I am feeling confident in placing a FutureCast prediction in favor of Michigan for 2023 DL Jamel Howard, as Josh also did earlier today.

He will visit Ann Arbor this weekend and will see whether or not he makes the news official after the visit, but as Josh said, I expect him to commit to Michigan at some point in the near future.

Howard decommited from Wisconsin today and is former high school teammates with Michigan freshman LB Jimmy Rolder.

So lets get down to it...

Michigan is 10-0 yet people are complaining about....

"They haven't played anyone"

Answer: Neither has anyone else. UConn is bowl eligible. Iowa is playing better. psu is 8-2

"The passing game is terrible".

Answer: Not terrible at all but could be better. The lack of passing is a product of winning and winning on the ground. Throwing 17 times in a rain/snow game was smart. People want bombs. I want completions. Go back to what was working short to intermediate passes. Take 1 to 2 shots a game. Pound the rock and win. It ain't fancy but it wins games.

Leave the osu is going to kill us comments out because we can't do this or we can't do that. Those have been beat to death

10-0 is 10-0...NOBODY can accurately predict the game. If you do you got lucky cuz NOBODY saw the ass whoopin Michigan put on them last year.

GO BLUE!

Recruiting DJ Waller's high school coach believes he can be a 'game changer' at next level

I had the opportunity to speak with DJ Waller's high school coach, Seth Antram, tonight before Waller visits Ann Arbor this weekend.

Insider Henschke's Quick Hitters 11/17: Availability update for Illinois

Welcome back to another HQH update, this one is for Illinois week. After speaking with a handful of sources, I have a general idea of what the availability situation will look like for Illinois on Saturday.

Let's get started.

- It certainly sounds like Donovan Edwards WILL NOT play against Illinois on Saturday. This is a precautionary sit, they want to give him some rest before the big one next week. He has not practiced at all this week so I highly doubt things are expected to change leading up to Saturday.
- Trevor Keegan is also trending toward being out for a second week. His status remains up in the air for Saturday. Leaning more towards doubtful.
- Luke Schoonmaker returned to practice this week as I reported earlier in the week. I haven't received any further word about him so I am taking that as a sign that he's probable for Saturday.
- Was also told that Mike Morris was "good to go" for this weekend, for what it's worth.
- As for the other players who have been banged up, it's a mixture of full practice and light practice for some guys. We'll see what transpires during pregame warmups.

Completely fair article I believe - Is UM defense a mirage ? via M Live Aaron Mcmann

I personally am not convinced we are an ELITE defense . Are we good ? Of course. Elite ? mmm I dont think so but we will find out very soon in Columbus. Thoughts ?

Addressing the elephant in the room...

I fully support Brandon's next move 100%. The move for him makes sense and checks every box that he wants to achieve in his career moving forward. Very happy for him.

As for what's next for us, I have been waiting for an opportunity to give my guy @Brock Heilig some added responsibilities and have been slowly putting more on his plate with us. He's exceeded all expectations and he has a chance to be really good in this industry. Once we hit the finer details, I am fully expecting Brock to take on more football and basketball opportunities here. This is a win for all of you.

Someone who is passionate about Michigan and wants to write for a career, Brock is going to be great once we get more of a defined role for him moving forward.

Nothing will change in terms of coverage. I will still be here leading the way. It's good that I have hungry dudes in my corner that will be assets for all of us moving forward.

Up 34-3, and starters in the game.

Could anyone give a valid reason, at this point in the season, up 34-3, why the starters are in the game?

I’m so pissed that Mike Morris suffered an injury. Or any starter for that matter playing in q4, up 30.
It’s all hands on deck and last thing we need now is our “no name” studs getting banged up for no apparent reason.
