Settlement with B1G this week?

It would benefit all parties to settle this before Friday. It seems like reducing the suspension to 2 games which frees up Jimmy for the OSU game would put the B1G issue behind us, add drama to The Game and thus please the deep pockets a Fox Sports. This is bad for business and I would think Pettiti would like to shut it down and wait for the NCAA post-season response. Frankly, at that point, it will be in his interest to defend Michigan, just as Delany did when anyone got in trouble.

Georgia and New York H.S. football

I adjusted Georgia's H.S. recruit #s to reflect Georgia having the same population as New York. (This assumes a steady increase in athletes as population increases.)

In the 24 H.S. football class, New York has a total of 20 recruits that have a star rating by Rivals.
They have 1 four star, 12 three stars, and 7 two stars.

If Georgia had the same population as New York, they would project at 9 five stars, 89 four stars, 225 three stars and 90 two stars, totaling 413 star rated recruits compared to New Yorks 20........

Here's Michigan just to show where we land here.

If Michigan had the same population as New York, they would project at 18 four stars, 54 three stars, and 42 two stars, totaling 114 star rated recruits compared to New York's 20.

Comparing the SEC region vs the B1G/ACC region, the North ACC and B1G east are hurt by the fact that unlike other highly populated states, New York does not have football talent. If they did, it would be a game changer for the B1G east, and North ACC.

OT: Rutgers Basketball?

To show how illogical College basketball recruiting has become, Rutgers is now apparently a basketball recruiting powerhouse.

2 tournament appearances, 1 win, in the last 50 years.

Last season they missed the tournament, and recruits were so inspired by this that it looks like they will gain commitments from the #2 and #3 ranked players nationally.

Just thought that this was weird/interesting because the five-star who has already signed is from Georgia- Connection?
The 2nd 5-star is a Jersey kid from Don Bosco, which makes more sense...a bit more sense.

Let’s Put The ACC Idea to Bed…

It’s doubtful we would have an interest in the ACC. It’s TV rights contract is awful—paying member schools an average of $30 million per year—extending all the way thru 2036. Big Ten schools (except Oregon and Washington) will be paid $70 million each this year. In addition, Michigan would not want to agree to the ACC’s GOR agreement and its punitive exit fee, The poor long-term media rights agreement is the reason so many of the ACC’s better teams want to leave, trapped by that GOR agreement and the $100+ million exit fee.

According to the SEC’s new deal withn ESPN/Disney each member school will be paid $70 million in 2024. The addition of Michigan, Florida State, Clemson and North Carolina to the SEC would dramatically increase the value of that media rights contract. Pick a number—$100 million per school in year one of the 10-year deal?

The ACC shouldn’t even cross anyone’s mind. The choices are obvious—remain in an unfriendly Big Ten… or the SEC.

Recruiting Intel: On Carter Smith and 2025 QB recruiting

You'll likely start to hear some buzz emanating out of Ann Arbor when it comes to 2025 QB Carter Smith, who visited the program for the Purdue game.

By all accounts, the visit had a major impact on him and some are theorizing that the Wolverines actually lead for him coming out of the visit.

You see 2025 QB and you immediately get a pause, considering where things are for five-star Bryce Underwood. After talking to some folks, it sure doesn't feel as if these two things are related to one another.

I haven't gotten anyone to say with certainty that they would take two quarterbacks if Smith and Underwood want to join but I also didn't get word about taking one before the other.

The way it was outlined to me from someone inside the building, the coaches like Smith a lot. Unreal kid and unreal playmaker. They're in the process of evaluating the 2025 QB class based on attrition factors such as whether J.J. McCarthy leaves after the season (not a guarantee but something they have to account for), they didn't take a QB in the 2023 class and whether one of the 2022 QBs leave after the season due to lack of playing time. It's an overall roster evaluation.

While it sure sounds like it could be potentially a two-quarterback class, it hasn't been explicitly stated by anyone I've spoken to. Underwood is still QB1 on their target board as he announces in January.

I would not view positive buzz coming from Smith and U-M in relation to Underwood and any potential standing there. He's the top priority.

We'll see how the offseason shakes out and what the QB depth chart looks like in the coming weeks.

ESPN Staff's College Football Playoff Picks 2023

I've been following the ESPN Staff's Playoff Picks since week 2, and figured I'd compile all of the picks and share them. I don't think that anyone listed here truly has an opinion that impacts the CFP Rankings, but it is still interesting to look at.

Let's play what if... (it's only a game)

What if Michigan joined the SEC...
1. Who would be a partner to join the SEC with us?
A. WVU, B. ND, C. FSU, D. Clemson E. ???
F. A fellow B1G partner school, then who?
2. Would the SEC have 4 pods of 5 schools ea?
3. What schools would you want to be in our pod?
4. Would you want a 9 or 10 game conference schedule?

My choices are:
1. Clemson
2. Yes
3. Ky, Mo, Tenn, Ol Miss.
4. 9 game schedule
