How Should TV Rights Money Be Split Up?

If I understand correctly, TV rights receipts are being distributed equally among Big Ten conference members. Is this fair and equitable?

Some conference members have as many as 26-28 men’s and women’s sports; some schools regularly achieve substantial competitive success; some schools choose to invest substantial amounts in capital facilities, academic support and recruiting. Some schools have as many as 1,000 scholarship athletes; others only a few more than 500-600. A few schools are rewarded by being chosen to regularly appear on TV; other schools seldom are shown outside of the Big Ten Newwork.

Should schools which choose to run ‘bare bones’ athletic departments be rewarded with equal shares of TV rights receipts recieved from our TV network partners? Should spending floors and caps be used? Would that be legal in publicly funded schools?

If not, what is a fair and equitable means for the distribution of TV money?

Football Did a column on the quarterbacks

This is more so for non-subscribers, there's nothing new here for all you guys but wanted to be transparent with everything that goes on our front page. There's been plenty of smokescreens and opinions going around, so I discussed that a little bit.

Donovan Edwards hype

At times, over his three years, Donovan Edwards has looked like one of the greatest rb’s to ever play at Michigan.

He comes up big in big games. 75-yard pass in the ‘21 B1G title game, 173 rushing vs PSU in ‘22, Stepped up as big as anyone ever has when Corum went down against Illinois. 216 all-purpose yards at OSU, B1G ‘22 title game MVP. He was great in the first half at PSU last year with two 22-yard runs. One of those runs was a for a score on 3rd & 11. He threw a 34-yard pass verses Buckeyes last year. Also started that wild double pass JJ-to-Roman Wilson in Rose Bowl. He was pretty good in the 1st quarter of the Natty with 41 & 46 yard TD runs.

How they use Edwards this year will be fascinating. Hand it to him, throw it to him and let him throw it. I’m sure the staff watched a lot of how the Saints use Alvin Kamara over the years and how the Lions got the ball to Jahmyr Gibbs as a rookie last year.

Edwards as a weapon reminds me of Barry Sanders in that Barry’s likely road to 100 yards rushing was something like 10 attempts at 2,-4,0,25,1,1,50,0,25&0.

Makari Paige the latest to embody being a Michigan Man

The Michigan Man mantra can become cliche until a player embodies it.
Makari Paige is the latest Michigan player to overcome adversity, fight their way back up after falling, stay, and become a champion.
And now, Paige is a captain.

It's Good News Wednesday! 8-21-24

My good news is we are a week and a half away from starting to get some on-field answers to some burning off-season questions. How will we look sans Blake and JJ? Is this D what we think it will be? Can the O-line continue the recent tradition of beating people up?

I can't wait, but I'll have to.

Yesterday was my wife's birthday. I met her when she was in 7th grade, and now she's 65. Time flies, so cherish your life and relationships.

Today is my son-in-law's birthday, and Saturday is my granddaughter's 4th birthday.

These are all good news things we should hold dear and celebrate.

Today, I have Mohs surgery on the side of my face. I've had it before, and I'm so glad I go to the dermatologist every six months to check my skin. A white guy like me who loves to be in the Florida sun must stay on top of these things. The worst part is the ginormous bandage they put over the wound. Still, I'm glad they can easily take care of it. By Monday, it will be a faded memory.

What's your good news?

According to the info Greg Flugar has been given

the ACC media deal will not renew nor extend beyond 2027. 2027 is the last season of the ESPN/ACC media contract.
It has also come out that the B1G & SEC have no interest in expanding until 2026. Does this mean that 2026 will be the
year the teams/schools leaving the ACC to begin play in their new league in 2027. This makes perfect sense.
