On Bryce Underwood

Last year there was an opportunity with the departure of OC Mike Denbrock, but Kelly and LSU mitigated it by promoting QBC Joe Sloan to OC. Sloan was and is Underwood's primary recruiter.

This year, the open secret is that Kelly is not long for Baton Rouge.

In order for Michigan to get back in it with Underwood, the following things have to happen:

1. Kelly departs. He'll need an escape plan; he's not retiring or quitting without an offer elsewhere.
2. LSU does NOT promote Joe Sloan to HC.
3. Michigan offers a nonstandard NIL package. LSU's cash per annum is easily beatable but their overall offer is nonstandard.

We are trying, and he is listening. But nothing is going to proceed without a proper shakeup at LSU.

If I am Coach Moore....

If I am Coach Moore, I am keeping a real close eye and ear to the ground regarding Lincoln Riley's job status moving forward this season. The fact is Riley has seriously under performed at USC having a Heisman QB future #1 pick and not winning the conference then taking a step back with him in year 2 followed by this year realistically having a chance to miss a bowl in year 3. USC is not the type of program to buy time and wait in my opinion. Why not go after him to be the QB coach and OC? Him with Moore's approach to physicality I think could blend very well. On the other side I believe you could buy 1 more year with the defensive staff to preform much better with a competent offense at the very least. Michigan HAS to make an effort to have better QB play and development PERIOD before anything else in my opinion.

OT: Can we just get rid of Columbus Day already?

Absolute proof that the Norse were here first by nearly 500 years.

Besides, he was a horrible person with a very murky past, and he never made it farther than Hispaniola.

Science..the real thing.

I’ll be here Friday night to talk some football and about Illini HC Brett Bulimic, along with hitting back at Vegas so hard on the 2 games I was absolutely sure about because they featured my 2 hometown teams, the Eagles and the Lions games. Overs, covers, 4 leg same game parlays, props, 2 game teaser,..any way I could bet those games I did, and now I’m pretty much done for the year, because I can’t make over a certain amount of supplementary income or I’ll lose my SSDI. I’ll make small bets here and there, but I hit a grand slam on the first weekend I usually start, when you kinda know who the shit teams are by mid-October. I’m currently looking at 2011 Ford Rangers in my area for sale..

Hope y’all are well. I’m…me. Trying to stay in my hermit cave avoiding anything about the election until it’s over. I’m lightning quick with the “Last” button on my remote now after months of hitting it in milliseconds at the first flash on the screen of the incessant political ads. Still, I’ll be extremely relieved after November 5th.

Later all. Go Blue! - Argus Penoptes

Objectively, isn't the football team probably worse next year?

I know everyone is down on the squad this year....fire all the coaches, etc. It's a tough time. I get it. But man, trying to not think about this year....looking ahead to next season has me shook. As I look at this current roster Consider this: We are not very good right now, and the roster of this not very good squad has really 4 guys that strike fear in the hearts of opponents: Kenneth Grant, Mason Graham, Will Johnson, Colston Loveland and ALL of those guys are likely gone after this year. And that is without even mentioning the bleak state of the QB room right now. So unless we just go FULL Miami in the portal this summer and start a tossing money at some real difference-makers (Which we've literally never ever done in the history of the program) then I have a very hard time seeing how next years team is not even worse than this current one....I'm 100% not trying to be a Debbie-Downer but....am I off base in my projection?

We got what we asked for...Continuity.

Good times were rolling as we all saw this program's dominance finally come to fruition under JH, with three Big Ten titles, three playoff births, and one National Title. None of us wanted the good times to stop, and I scoffed at anybody who suggested anything other than Sherrone Moore as our next head coach - as he was (and I believe still is) one of the main reasons we turned a corner as a team with the "smash" mentality.

However, I, like many others, were so concerned about keeping the same pro-style smash-mouth approach we never stopped to think about Should we keep things the same. There is a Jeff Goldblum quote in there somewhere...

While I loved smashing Ohio to a bitter pulp each of the past three years, the reality is nobody outside of a tiny percentage of programs (Iowa) runs a pro-style system for a reason. Sure, UM has some spread/multiple elements, but at its core, it's an under-center downhill run game with short timing throws into small windows—designed to keep the changes moving and the defense on the field.

Nobody runs this stuff in college anymore because you Need NFL talent, especially at the quarterback position, to be effective at it. I know what you're going to say...

For those who will point out Cade McNamara, I will also remind you of Josh Gattis, who brought spread elements into the UM offense in 2021 that helped Cade be as successful as he was. This only proves my point further. All you have to do is look at his performance now.

Even if you're getting 5*stars at the QB position (which UM isn't getting) there is no guarantee they'll pan out. Cough...DJ Uiagalelei...Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, and others have converted their traditional pro-style programs to running college-type spreads. While defense still wins championships, the bar to be competitive on offense has been driven up as well over the years.

I say this all to say that if Sherrone Moore wants this program to get back to what it was in years past, it's time for him to change and seriously think about who we are as a team and what's the realistic best way to compete and win Championships.

This is why I favor a necessary program shift toward a spread/college-style offense this summer.

M Hockey Saturday Night

We lost 4-0 to St Cloud.

They scored the first goal during a 5 minute power play.

Their second goal was sort of a won face off where their player got thee puck near the boards and the top of the right circle and skated unencumbered at the net and beat Korpi (freshman Goalie) on a shot he needs to save.

Their third goal was an empty netter, much like our third gal last night. 4th goal was a Powerplay goal in the final minute.

Thoughts....

- Season is still young but it seems M may be a bit better defensively than we have in the past.
- we have a tough OCC schedule in Minny State, St Cloud, BU, and WMU along with the B1G. A surefire challenge for a young team.
- Said it vs Minny State and it seems like the question is still there. Who scores goals for this team. Right now it may be Schifsky & Hage. I don't see scoring up and down the lineup as we have in the past. Still early though.
- M had opportunites around SC's net, but their goalie was good. I think losing McGroarty may have ore of an impact than some thought.
- M has plenty of speed and I suspect some of the underclassman will start finding the net as they grow. Remember last year we were on this win one lose one early in the season.
- our Penalty kill seems good so far... Our power play, not as much, but I never thought we could repeat the success rate of last year.
- Would be nice to win some of the OOC games because they could help come tourney time with the pairwise record and with the B1Gexpected to be tough again this season.
- while we didn't score in this game, SC threw a defensive wall from center ice in starting around the 10 minute mark of the third period. M did managed to break it, but it was clear SC was working on something defensively, which it game M an opportunity to breaking such defense which they are more than likely to see again in B1G play. It's where we could benefit from a few snipers. Hopefully the younger guys don't start to press.

Next game is against the development team on Oct 25th... BC beat then 8-4 on Saturday.... not really sure what that means other than BC is good again.
