My official “stance” on Bryce Underwood coverage moving forward…

Tonight and the silliness of a deleted story continues to drive the point home that I am going to let things play out.

With that being said, I am not going to make any further stories, no new threads (outside of this one 😜) or anything of the like until something official happens one way or the other.

I could absolutely sell my soul for clicks and milk the crap out of this thing but you all don’t deserve that and that’s not just not how I am going to do things.

That’s not to say I won’t make comments in threads nor am I saying you guys can’t make threads on your own, I just won’t add anything until I get something officially official.

For now, we wait…

Somewhat OT: Home/Away records for B1G teams.

I has posted somewhere around the Washington loss that the "middle class" of the B1G to which Michigan belongs would be greatly affected by their home /away schedule.

First and foremost I would like to define this "middle class" as the 11 B1G teams floating around a .500 record; The top 4, of course are Oregon, IU, OSU, and PSU.
According to the B1G Rankings, in order: Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisky, Washington, Michigan, UCLA, Nebraska, MSU, Northwestern, and USC make up teams within 2 games of .500, with at least 2 B1G wins.

These teams are a combined 13-28 on the road.

Not one of these teams has a winning road record in the B1G- Washington and USC are 0-4. Michigan is 0-3. MSU, Rutgers, Nebraska, and Illinois and Iowa all have just 1 B1G road win, vs 2 or 3 losses. The best of this group are 2-2 UCLA (their 3rd road win was @ Hawaii), Minny, Wisky, and NWestern.

In an otherwise even season amongst the also rans, the road was the biggest difference maker- Michigan for the most relevant example is 5-2 at home, with losses to Texas and Oregon, and 0-3 on the road, with losses to Illinois, IU, and Washington. In other words, Michigan is 4-1 at home in the conference.

IMO all three of those games would've been winnable at home. Conversely, USC and Minnesota could very well have been road losses, and Oregon may have been a worse loss.

Saying all that to say this: Michigan will beat Northwestern next weekend at home, no doubt.

This will be Donovan Edwards', Colton Loveland's, Mason Graham's, and Kenny Grant's last game in the Big House. The idea that we showed well @ IU should lead to the thought that this game should be more like the MSU game...

The imbalance of the schedule (of course this would be the season we don't play Maryland or Purdue) also feeds into the record.

Looking at the top teams (PSU, Oregon, I'm talking about YOU!) some of them face only one of the top 3 teams in the B1G- PSU played OSU at home. Oregon has Purdue, Maryland, and Minnesota remaining of their last three games, and won't have to face another one of the top 3 teams in the B1G.

Oregon beat OSU @ OSU though (the best win in the B1G this season, IMO), but after that their second toughest game was ...@ Michigan?

PSU toughest game outside of OSU was...@ USC?

Oddly enough, OSU was given the hardest schedule of the 4 top teams, playing all of the other three contenders, but don't expect me to feel sorry for them.

OSU has a better schedule, but they played nobody in the out of conference schedule- They played Oregon (lost) and PSU (win) and will play IU. IU only plays OSU of the top 4. Oregon only played OSU as well.

If IU can beat OSU @ home next week (not a pipe dream), then Oregon and IU would be playing for the #1 playoff seed overall, as an undefeated B1G champ.

I'm not sure of the correct word used to describe the back and forth "comeuppance" between fan bases. The game away from the field. Always a part of "rivalry" and can add a lot of fun. Was an entertaining element during the "Ten Year War". What is the word I am looking for? "Sportsmanship" vs "Gamesmanship" are elements.
Buckeyes and their fans continue to not get how this game is played; and continue to take it too far. More crude than clever.

Remember when the Hotel the Wolverines were staying in the eve before The Game had the water cut off in the middle of the night? No toilets or showers! Two visits in a row.

M beat the Bucks in 2003 in the 100th The Game. For many years a group of us held down a great tailgate spot on the corner of Kipke Dr and "Tunnel Dr" and the grass island that separates the parking lot from Kipke. That day we had one of our best tailgates. Featuring incredible spare ribs. We had a lot. Sam Webb knew we threw a great tailgate and brought Marcus Ray and Charles Woodson and entourage over pregame. A large part of our group was made up of the parents of the players. The party continued throughout the game for those who didn't go in. This was the after game meet up place for players and their family. We built a great rep for food but more so the vibes. It had become a great destination.
Enough back story
During the game the word got out to the police working the surrounding area. They are not very busy during the game and they congregated in groups of ten enjoying all the "too many" ribs we had. M won the 100th The Game 35-21. Back at the Victory Celebration we still had groups of police officers popping in and out. Good compadre ness.

The buckeyes had four busses waiting for them outside the tunnel. Waiting for them to leave the locker room mingle with family and friends and face the bus ride back to C Bus (Columbus). The busses full they started out on their way out to Kipke Dr. Right past out tailgate and a right onto Kipke Dr.. We yelled out "here they come; lets serenade them with "The Victors". We lined both sides of the drive and were loud and proud. The lead bus took the corner too short and clipped the rear of a pick up truck parked in the last row.
The truck owner was in our group. We started taunting, and chasing down the bus and several of the officers leapt to be our heroes. Chasing the bus down and stopping it and getting an accident statement
and info from the bus driver. This is all taking 15 mins or so. The other three busses are all waiting lined up. In a sea of M fans. We had a captive audience of defeated buckeyes who
had to sit and endure.

This all happened right in front of us. I stood in the front of the crowd. The officers had the driver off the bus. The door to the bus open. Their sat Jim Tressell in the front seat.
Face red with anger and humiliation. Impulse over took me. Three big steps and I was on the bus right next to the empty drivers seat; looking down the aisle at the buckeyes first team units. Their "stars". And Tressel two feet away. I loudly yelled out; "One two, you know what to do"; and thrusting my arm and fist started singing the greatest fight song ever written; "Hail to The Victors Valiant". Knowing I was pushing it I quickly exited back out of the bus and disappeared into the crowd w/o further involvement.

The next year in C Bus Tressell had a plan to get back at us. "Comeuppance". A fake report of a "bomb threat" from the dangerous M team required a Bomb Squad to stop and search each member of M Team and coaches and entourage and their baggage as they waited to enter the locking room. Sitting ducks for the buckeye fans to jeer at.
Fortunate that our M Team of outstanding citizens all survived the search and didn't have to worry about illegal substances they might have brought along to celebrate their end of the season victory.

This was Tress's version of "comeuppance" from the bus incident the year before. I'd say they don't know how to play the game.
Storing up urine for their squirt guns to drench M fans on their way into "The Hole" is going way too far. Butt you can see where their version of "comeuppance" comes from when their band displays this type of "sportsmanship/gamemanship"

Also thought the "poop flag" they used on the M flag; looked a lot like the Cleveland Browns logo. "Brownie, The Elf" or "Dancing Turd" as I call it. I mean; the turd had eyeballs. Cute.

Looking for help with that word that escapes me to describe the clever back n forth between fan bases. Anyone have other stories , examples of this?

2025 Michigan football scholarships

I don’t think this is terribly shocking but I confirmed with a source today that Michigan intends to eliminate its preferred walk on program moving forward.

With the new revenue sharing and roster limits rules, teams can only carry 105 players total, but all of those players can be on scholarship. So Michigan intends to have a roster of all scholarship players.

It will be interesting to see what this means in terms of roster strategy moving forward. Larger recruiting classes, more portal additions, both?

In a little bit of a defense of the poor performance of our offensive line.

Don't let the helmets fool you, that is an upper level defensive line to say the least and if they can perform well against their upcoming top 10 opponents could go down as elite.

I got caught up in the uniforms.

Cignetti had monster play from the defensive front at James Madison. Even with the loss of him and transfers they are currently #9 nationally in yards per play.

They have two defensive line coaches, one for tackles and one for ends and both have accomplished resumes. The tackle coach was a Notre Dame nose tackle in the early aughts and was with him at James Madison producing more than his share of post season accolades for kids. The ends coach came from colorado state where he mentored the conference defensive player of the year. Before his two year stint there he was at North Dakota State winning four nattys in his five years there and coaching three all american defensive linemen.

MSU had just throttled Iowa and ran the ball VERY well in a night game in Ann Arbor. Then Indiana comes into East Lansing and absolutely anihilates their offensive line.

Most of us agree our offensive line should be better and is trending the wrong way.

BUT make no mistake that Indiana front is a legitimate upper level problem.

Six players Michigan needs to play more to end the season

Michigan's season is two games away from coming to an end, and it's hard not to look to next year.
With eyes on 2025, these are six players I want Michigan to play more at the end of this season.

OT: Restaurant Reviews

So to take a break from all the BU news/conjecture, I figured this would be a good avenue to share some reviews of our fav restaurants.

This is no particular order but here's a few of my favorites

Benstein Grille (https://bensteingrille.com/) -overall they do a good job with everything. Pre Covid they were a bit of a mess and something changed and they really upped their game. They especially do a good job with their themed brunches (i.e. Mother's Day)

Stella's Table (https://www.stellastablemi.com/) - I'm picky with Italian because I grew up with Italian grandparents who were amazing cooks, but this place checks all the boxes for me. I don't think I've had a bad meal there yet

Charlie's Still on Main (https://www.stillonmain.com/) - great bourbon/whiskey selection and amazing southern scratch food

Kickstand Brewery (https://www.kickstandbrewingco.com/) - this place is my go to. Great beer and the menu is always being updated. These guys just do it right.

It's Good News Wednesday! 11-13-24

My good news is we have a bye week. Nuff said.

I'm going to Arkansas this weekend for the Arkansas-Texas game. I'm gonna spend a little time with my buddy that I ride with and meet up with another classmate from high school.

I'm trying to kick-start my Christmas shopping to get ahead of things this year.

Work is going well

What's your good news?

Go Blue!

Technical Feedback on the board

I haven't seen this discussed and maybe there's something i'm missing, but when logging in from the message board whether on my phone or computer, it takes me to the rivals main page and then i need to navigate back to where I was logging in from. I think that's really poor design and annoying. Could you pass this on to your technical team?

Thanks!!

I have placed my FutureCast selection in favor of Michigan for five-star LB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng. I say it doesn't matter because Sam Spiegelman dropped the bomb last night and I am just confirming what he has said, we continue to hear good things separately from sources.
