It's Good News Wednesday! 11-20-24

My good news is football is back. Bye weeks are hard on me. They are so hard that last week, I took off and went to the Arkansas/Texas game. I had a great time. Arkansas played great on defense but crapped the bed on offense. Sound familiar?

Anyway, I was with good friends, and it was a great weekend.

It looks like after shopping for a couple of years, I'm finally gonna buy a new car. I'm keeping the 2005 Trailblazer for work. It only has 185,000 miles on it.

I'm getting ready for the Holidays. Think about this: the Lions finally have a great chance of winning on Thanksgiving.

What's your good news?

Potential portal qb’s

Miller Moss USC
John Mateer Washington State
Chandler Morris North Texas
Jordan McCloud Texas State
Thomas Castellanous BC
Dexter Williams Georgia Southern
Matt Sluka UNLV
Behren Morton Texas Tech
Malik Murphy Duke
Brendan Sorsby Cincinnati
Emmett Brown San Jose St.

Feel free to add, subtract or comment on anyone on this list. I watched Moss play against LSU and Michigan and he looks pretty talented. I don’t have much of an opinion on anyone else on this list because I haven’t watched them play.

Recruiting On the recent recruiting smoke…

Man, @Minocm deserves some credit here. I may not be as optimistic as he is but 2025 four-star OL Ty Haywood is the man being discussed in his thread. He is currently committed to Bama.

This one has been bubbling for a bit but kept quiet intentionally because no one is really sure which way it’s going to go.

Why I am not optimistic is that Haywood will need to make a midweek visit in order to get this to happen. He has a playoff game on Saturday and with this being the last home game, logistics make it hard. Considering we’re also a week an a half ish away from December 4, it’s very tight. So, that’s a we’ll see there.

Not ruling anything out right now but U-M has some work to do to get into it.

Belleville's OLB Dre Thomas Decommits from CMU

Just opened up his recruitment (previously committed to CMU)

71 tackles, 9 Forced Turnovers (one most in the state, if not the most) 5 defensive TDs (9 total TDs) 11 TFLS, 6 strips, 5 sacks, 2 ints, 7 Qb hurries, 16 carries 243 yards (3Tds), 144 Kr yards (2Tds)

Since we're poking around the Tigers, really hope he gets a look.

Recruiting What the commitment of Elijah Dotson means for Michigan's class of 2025

On Wednesday, Michigan football gained an addition to its 2025 class when four-star DB Elijah Dotson (Belleville, Mich.) announced he was flipping from Pittsburgh to the Wolverines.

Breaking down the impact of Dotson's commitment:

OT: I straddle both this site and on3 (go ahead and gif me to death for that softball ;-)...

Just have to credit to the Mods and posters here for being so humble and interacting in a kind, cordial and fun banter.

Anyone else that participates in both sites and disagrees can go run back to on3 and tattletale, lol.

Maize&Blue Review is such a breath of fresh air for Michigan fans.

Thank you @Josh Henschke and your awesome staff!

Recruiting Interesting scenario at DL

Michigan is expecting to host two prospects committed elsewhere on the D-line this weekend.

Quante Gillians, Syracuse commit, is already on campus and Michigan is pushing for a flip. A LOT of optimism a flip can happen here.

Another scenario I’m waiting to see play out is the Wolverines also hosting Cinci DL commit Benny Patterson as well.

The Wolverines are trying to make a strong push here and I cannot rule out a flip scenario here either.

Both guys are kind of under the radar in terms of their rankings and such. You could have two pieces to the line in the interior and exterior in short order if all goes according to plan.

Guess Who?

We haven’t even completed the first season or received the final rankings of the first year of the 12-team playoff regime. But one school is already making proposals for changes.

Eliminate Conference Championship Games

Why play a meaningless exhibition game when both teams are likely to already be in the playoffs? Just begin the first round of playoffs one week earlier.

Procedure For Awarding First Round Byes

The rule whereby conference champions get first round byes in the playoffs is backfiring. Some teams which may get byes could easily include mediocre teams like Miami, SMU, Colorado, Boise State, being awarded byes only because they are conference champions instead of being better teams who deserve to have earned a bye. Under current rules teams could get into the playoffs only because they were conference champions, not because they were voted in by the Playoff Committee.

That rule needs to be changed to require any team getting a first round bye be ranked in the top 10 by the Playoff Committee. If a conference champion is not ranked in the top 10, then that bye should go to the next highest ranked top 10 team that was not a conference champion.

Take a look at the most recent rankings by the Playoff Committee and guess which school is making these proposals? You get three guesses, and the first two don’t count!
