Can He recruit the Portal ?

This is the question that seems at the center of any coaching search and (unfortunately) a central element of the next five years of CBB. A significant question is whether a mid major coach can who has enjoyed success recruiting and developing at a lesser level can effectively recruit transitionary talent for transfers. Not sure it’s an obvious skill set….

Insider Will have more practice Intel tomorrow…

But a quick note. Full pads today, no tackling.

However, was told that Jadyn Davis had a really good day today and was told by one spectator that he could be a factor “at some point”.

One more bonus note because I love you all. Wink knows his way around the field, Jesse Minter spent the first hour of practice standing next to him.

I'm intentionally excluding Rumeal, Poole, Higgins and Burke games.

Looking to dig into the memory banks and dig up and old favorite that may have been forgotten.

I'm going '93 UCLA. Down big at halftime. Awesome 2H and an underrated performance by Ray Jackson.

QB battle off and running in spring practices

Michigan Football spring practices are underway and the 5-way QB battle is off and running.
Sherrone Moore breaks down what he has seen from his quarterbacks at the start of spring, a couple of leaders emerging?

Spring Position Breakdown: Offensive Line

Change is coming to the Michigan offensive line with a new coach and five new starters.
Myles Hinton and the next level, Andrew Gentry, are ready to arrive, and two players who have waited their turn, including the one I think will lead this group.

M beesball beats Toledo 7-6 in 12 innings.

Barr had a nice game in relief to gain the win going 6 innings.

11 runs were scored in the first three innings and 1 the rest of the way until the 12th. Kim looked to jamb his hand sliding into firat base on a play and was removed from the game. Never saw the real benefit of doing that even when Chet Lemon did it. Hopefully, it isn't serious and he'll be back soon. M needs his bat.

Sorry to take this thread in a different direction, but Michigan plays a different brand of baseball than we saw a few years ago.

Here's a perfect example i found reading a box score for Clemson vs UNC Greensboro game over the weekend. it was a 3-3 game in the 7th inning.
Clemson had the bases loaded with 1 out. Jarren Purify (Freshman from Detroit) at bat. This is the line in the play-by-play box score.

PURIFY grounded out to p, SAC, bunt, 2 RBI.

How do you get 2 RBI's on a bunt to the pitcher? Simple. Bakich ball. with runners on second and third UNC intentionally walked the next batter to set up a double play and pitch to freshman Purify. What does Bakich call? a double squeeze play and Purify executed it perfectly, allowing two runs to score on the play.

I watched all of the M vs Toledo game and saw us ground into a base loaded double play. Throughout the game, Do we hit and run? Not that I saw. Do we try and steal a base? we did one and twice were thrown out. Do we try and put any pressure on the opposing defense? not often. Maybe the players don't make enough contact. Even when M was trying to put down a bunt to move a runner into scoring position in an extra inning, we couldn't get it down. SMH. Not the same baseball. And some wonder why we look back fondly. We may have lost game, but at least we were awake in the stands.

Good win for the team though... Toledo had a 6-1 lead at one point. M fought back. eventually won.

This weekend San Diego comes in for three games. First home series before traveling to Ypsi to play EMU on Tuesday and to Happy Valley next weekend for three with PSU.

Let’s Play a Psychiatrist Game: re: I can go to 1 Game This Season…

The setting is so…

In real life, I can attend only 1 Michigan game to my fall schedule quickly filling up with reunions, invite from Theo, the mayor of Amsterdam, to party our way from his family’s ancestral castle all the way to a party he is hosting in Prague. I am definitely going on that trip with no end date…I could spend a month or more with him.

Im likely going to be working more this summer and fall with Will that will require a good bit of travel. it is going to come down to compensation as the company he is contracting for will be paying a part of any contract with me going forward. I did 3 reports over the last 6 months for Will as a favor to an old friend, and to prove to myself that I still had the chops. I absolutely need to make new contacts..something I have some old friends working on for me. Unfortunately, that will likely require some travel as well. A face to face conversation to establish parameters and personally connect with the prospective source is critical to establishing if the person is the genuine article or is not someone I can’t take seriously. I’ve found that weeding out the clowns and those who have delusions of grandeur about themselves is a long difficult process.

Which will leave me with very few open weekends if compensation is worked out. There are 2 games to consider:

1). Attend the USC game with the parents, aunt, and uncle. It will be a nice weekend and historic, but very chill.

2). This year, my 2 uncle’s retired and passed on leadership of their MC club, still all ex-rangers who hide in plain sight, to my cousins Brandon and Dale, both desert war decorated vets, who have made a few changes to update the club. They changed the name of the club that, even though they had minority members, was a bit racist for the 2020s. New “murdered out” club colors with dark army green piping on patches. Changed from all Harley’s to any bike made before 1980 if you choose not to ride a hog. All bikes must be “Murdered Out” as well. No chrome, black or wrapped pipes, black satin paint with a no gloss flat clear sealer. They used to come with us to games when we were kids and are huge Michigan fans. Both really want me to go and Brandon already called my pops to pledge to him that nothing will happen on the trip.

They want me to go to the OSU game in cowtown with them…and by them I mean a dozen or more of their club members in colors riding into town on bikes. They said they’ll have a special “Legacy” vest for me, and I’ll have to pull my ‘79 KZ1000 out of storage now to have my bike guy Jerry get it running and converted to a mono shock..riding that rigid old school frame kills my back just thinking about it. Paint is easy ..I’ve always painted my own project cars. It would be weird for sure, because the opportunity to go outlaw has always been there for me, and I was dead set against it my whole life. Don’t know how I feel about wearing colors I didn’t earn, but damn..that would be an awesome way to roll up to the snake pit, with a platoon of real killers..at least I won’t feel weird about not belonging in that manner. These boys are a decade younger or more and are true “Hell raisers and Life takers”…we will definitely have a good time, especially when Moore outclasses Coach 3rd base again. It’ll be a ribald blast of sin and debauchery.

Gotta admit, I’m really struggling with this. The USC game will be epic. Rolling into cowtown with numbers from the deadliest outlaw biker gang in Michigan most residents are unaware exists would be a bucket list experience. Fixing and modifying my Kawasaki classic “Widow Maker” will be expensive even at friend prices..I really don’t know what to do here. The only other huge minus, you freeze your ass off riding in 50 degree weather, if it’s over freezing I’m still down, but if it’s gonna be in the 20s with winds and snow flurries? I’ve ridden in that weather before in my 20s and have no desire to do it again.

If you’ve been here awhile, then you know I’m legitimately not right in the head, and I’m sure you’re seeing something I’m missing. Pretend you’re my psychiatrist and I asked you for advice. I’d prefer to make the ride to the OSU game..for obvious reasons. However, Ive had a pretty good last 2 years of stability and I’m confident I’d be able to behave myself..as long as nobody effs with us. As my psychiatrist has, you’ve been happy with my state of mind for awhile, but all it takes is one trigger to set loose the monster within. Still, I’ve become somewhat of a shut in, this year I pledged to be more social with people my age and have some fun.

So tell me Dr., what game should I attend this season?

Jimbo Fisher 🤝 John Calipari

Both win a national championship on the coat tails of elite talent more than a decade ago. Both have done absolutely NOTHING since then despite continuing to get elite talent.

I wonder how long Kentucky will put up with him. Btw, keep Cal away from Ann Arbor.
Yes, I want a coach that can get the 5* talent, but I also want a coach that develops the 5* talent and makes deep tourney runs.

Dusty May or Darian DeVries would work at Michigan!
