Etta!

My click (among others) to pick this season is Enow Etta.

As usual, Michigan has emerging players.

Etta is the poster child of a recruit focused on football first, and joined a program known for football and team development.

There has been no flirting with the portal in his first two seasons- Only a business-like focus on football.

It's visible and obvious that, due to this focus, he has put in the work and gained good weight. The phrases "like a sponge", "always the last one to leave practice", "wants to be/can be great" have been thrown around by coaches and peers. The hard work has paid off.

I mean what 310 pound sophomore looks like this?:

That is a body that can carry another 15 lbs without it making one iota of difference on his speed and agility. I'm predicting a 325 lb monster who can help relive the loss of Grant and Graham (and probably Benny), and star in 2025. I think that he will flash in 2024.

He absolutely fits with the rest of the young men on the roster, and is in the mold of former players with the "nose to the grindstone" mentality of champions.

OTOH, his classmate Collins Acheampong spurned Michigan for Miami.

He is now at UCLA, starting over, nowhere to be seen on the two deep.

Good luck to him, but he is a bit behind his buddy as far as actually playing any meaningful snaps.

Interesting conversation on 1050 this morning.

Sam Webb with a rare interview of Warde.

Some of it is dry.

But when Sam asked Warde to respond to claims that we were slow out of the gate with NIL, the conversation got very interesting in my opinion.

Warde mentioned two primary causes for that and the first one was eye opening to me because I had never considered it.

My summary of his response, far from direct quotes, for those go ahead and find the interview and listen for yourself.

- When NIL really got moving, in 2021, we were already under NCAA investigation. The rules of course weren't clear and being aggressive like people wanted required pushing the envelope and going into a lot of gray area to aggressively pay players. At a time when we were under already investigation for breaking the rules, we were uniquely NOT positioned to push the envelope and potentially break rules on the very new and vague NIL rules. If only Connor Stallions had been so wise....(my editorial)
- Paying players and having donors ready to pay players hasn't been part of our culture like it has been at other places. In fact here, the culture was strongly against paying players and that culture had to change and it is changing and has changed....

Interesting stuff. I recommend listening.

He was also quite impassioned on his feelings on Jim. Particularly how overwhelming the sentiment was to get rid of him in 2020 - some from his closest of friends and HIS teammates saying it was time for him to go. Expressed his clearly intimate awareness of Jim's always present NFL dreams and is supportive of those dreams and him despite our loss. Clearly said claims of him not wanting him here are ludicrous. They agreed on a lot and didn't agree on some things as is the case in the real world between employees and their bosses but he is and always has been a supporter of Jim and wanted him here.

OT - With 10ish hours till game time…

First - Happy Game Day…

Second - Ive recently picked up the game of PickleBall… is there a more obnoxious bunch…???

We put in 6 courts and let me tell you… they’re the hardest group we got to keep happy…

They have an app they use for scheduling & communication… and we (The Den) are a way more civilized bunch than these “Seniors” just trying to line up games at local courts… there’s a thread going now on how local govt uses the picnic tables as a way to ensure Govt oversight… 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️🤓. So we got that going for us.

And C - anyone heard anything on the ongoing NOA? What, to soon?

Oh & Go Blue!!!

Football Analyzing the opposition: Fresno State preview

Michigan football begins its quest to defend a National Championship on Saturday night when it welcomes Fresno State to the Big House for a matchup under the lights in Week 1.

Breaking down how the Bulldogs match up to the Wolverines and making a prediction:

Who is your Michigan historical comparison for Orji and for Warren?

We have limited knowledge of either guy so this is all gonna be pure opinions.

Orji
Denard Robinson. I don't think Orji is as dynamic a runner, but the times he has run, I see the talent and strength. Maybe a bigger, not as shifty, stronger, but less proven as an all around QB than Denard.

Davis Warren
A more athletic, but shorter Speight. A more, athletic, taller, and more fluid athlete than Cade McNamara.

Maybe Griese too.

Five Storylines: Michigan vs Fresno State

Some questions have been answered, many debates still rage, and narratives are on the line until kickoff.

Five storylines from QB play to the OG's play calling in Michigan vs. Fresno State.
