OSU is getting a lot of bad publicity because of the Weber situation....

I haven't watched ESPN this week -- has this truly become a national story?

A quick search on Yahoo.com shows that the Michigan & Ohio news outlets are reporting on it -------- but not much of anybody beyond that (yet).

I agree with you that OSU has to release him IF this makes the likes of ESPN and SportsCenter. Otherwise, they'll probably get away with this.

Urban Meyer and OSU don't take too much of a hit here if the fallout gets limited to the likes of Cass Tech and Coach Wilcher. Cass Tech cranks out a lot of football studs but OSU doesn't "need" them that much. This isn't St.X or St.Iggy or Glenville OSU is pissing off here.

Also, as much as I don't like how OSU handled this from a "shadiness" and "slimy-ness" POV, the Buckeyes DO have the "letter of the law" on their side on this one.

Because they can ..... OSU has ALL the power here.

Here's what will happen:

(1) Urban does absolutely nothing in the short-term besides starting to schmooze Mike and sweet-talk Mike, convincing him about "how it would still be great to be a Buckeye, we're the best place for you to be, blah blah blah blah."

(2) Time passes, Mike calms down a bit, gets less emotional about it

(3) Mike sees his situation: it's either (a) sit out a year or (b) play for Ohio State.

It sucks, but that's reality.

They were just talking about this on ESPNU a few minutes ago. So yes it has gone pretty public. And of course espn analyst have voiced their own disgust with the situation, and say Meyer should be embarrassed that this took place.

It'll be interesting to see how this will be handled, especially if Weber continues to make this in to a bigger issue.

Re: Because they can ..... OSU has ALL the power here.

They're going to deny him the ability to get out of his LOI, and they'll maintain that position until he either decides to enroll or he goes to the NCAA and wins a petition, thus forcing Ohio State's hand. Even then they're going to fight it, and will probably tell him no matter what he does he won't play next year unless he's at Ohio State.

And this story happens every year, it just comes down to what they told Weber. There is a difference between leaving after telling your recruit that you're staying, or managing to avoid the subject and then leaving. I'm not sure if they lied right to his face on this, or what happened. As ugly as that sounds, think about the real world application. Do you tell your boss when you're looking for another job?

The bottom line is that Weber appear pissed and he may not want to play there....

If that's the case, OSU will look even worse by forcing him to stay against his will. I say that OSU cuts its losses and releases him.

I would tend to agree that this situation does not pass the eye test. A recruit does not feel he was treated properly by a coach or coaching staff. He wants everyone to know his disappointment. Criticism is leveled from the player and the adult in his life on how it was handled. The fans should take into account the players feelings in this matter and not be critical of the young man. This will eventually blow over, but I think that Mattison and Harbaugh should do the right thing and publicly issue an apology.

Are you mental?

Call me crazy, but I think that Ohio State and Urban Meyer will be just fine.

not a legit comparison. our case was a misunderstanding. yours was lies and deceit. big difference.

Most deservedly so. Total Slime ball Move By Urban Liar.

Hopefully OSU will do the Right thing. I don't care when he ends up going should he get his Release, as long as it ain't Ohio. (that team down south).

With Elliot, who will turn pro after the year, Samuel, Wilson, Marshall, and the eventual starter at QB, Weber won't be getting any meaningful carries this year anyway.

Re: The bottom line is that Weber appear pissed and he may not want to play there....

Coaches move on all of the time. What is not known is what Weber was told or not told. He is supposedly already good friends with Zeke Elliot. Look for Weber to get over it and stay.

Even though I was poking fun in an earlier post, I do feel it wasn't the best move for Ohio State to let the situation with
Weber to transpire how it happened. It does make OSU look bad, even in the eyes of some Buckeye fans. But, lets be honest, this type of incident happens much more so in football factories than we know of. Major college football is big business, with more at stake than most of us will ever be able to understand and experience. As much as Michigan fans won't admit it, this could easily happen to them. Harbaugh is no more holier than Meyer. He will do what needs to be done to satisfy the demand for a winner. If he doesn't, he will be another coach looking for a job.
