Penn State has a nice club. If QB delivers anything close to Saturday's performance, they won't lose more than once, and are probably playoff bound. We lose this game even with Speight (and maybe even Brady)
Despite being gashed this week, the defense remains a good one. Some of the O-line are getting better individually, but the collective hasn't meshed the way a line often does. Most problematic is the passing scheme. Routes are not crisp, and there is no separation. Too many routes have receivers cutting and turning their head at the same time, so there is no sense of a passing progression for a QB. Are there ever any hot routes? And even though our running backs are struggling as blockers (poor Evans reminds me of how I used to play third base...), they seem invisible in the passing scheme. And worse, they don't even try to loosen up the defense by throwing down field. I appreciate O'Korn's limitations, but throwing a zillion short passes just invites 8 folks into the box and allows the bad guys to play down hill.
A lot here is about coaching, and it is time for JH to tweak the staff, and find the equivalent of Brown and Mattison on the other side of the ball.
