We’ll see where this goes. I haven’t watched the tape yet but I didn’t think it was the sky-is-falling performance many on here are making it out to be. ND’s good, and a few jump balls that went their way early in the game really dictated the flow.
We were a bit disjointed between schemes and possessions; one series we’re in shotgun hurry up and the next series we’re I formation under center. I thought we moved it effectively in spurts but we’re just not quite sure what we’re good at yet.
We have an entirely new offensive staff in place and colleges don’t get the benefit of a scrimmage before they’re facing live bullets. Outside of a couple of the sacks he took I thought Patterson played well. Play calling had some head scratching moments, but this wasn’t a mass failure. All of these things can be fixed with film and reps.
It could be a sign of a season headed off the tracks. Or it might be a case where we refine our approach, sharpen our game plan and get better every week. We’ll see.
