I think that Harbaugh might genuinely believe that he will be at UM next year, which is why he is saying that to everyone. In his own mind, he is being honest and sincere. However, also in his own mind, he is willing to be back next year even if it is to complete the final year of his original contract.
Now, if Warde fires him because he cannot have a lame-duck coach going into his last year, Harbaugh could honestly say to everyone that he was telling the truth about being back and fervently meant it. BUT, that Warde fired him and did not give him that chance.
So, even if Warde would be doing that which everyone on this board recognized he would have to do, Harbaugh would save face by making Warde the culprit, and the public as a whole--not we mighty Forters--would go along with it.
