I understand Michigan shouldered 4 million of his buyout, which was a large up front cost, of course.
But what on earth were we doing with assistant coaches? Scott Schafer, the original DC, made 270k. His replacement, Greg Robinson, made 275k. Most position coaches made under 200k. The Michigan staff in 2010 was 6th in total compensation in the conference (it’s been #1 every year of JH).
boy, was this ever mismanaged. I am not at all a RR fan, I hated his era (I was at UM during it) and I have consistently said even denard was horrifically overrated (great athlete, terrible qb, look at his numbers against Iowa, MSU, OSU, Wisconsin....scary), but I cannot help but wonder How on earth we pay JH 2.5 million dollars more (ALONE) than the ENTIRE RR staff of 2010. Yes, coaching salaries have gone crazy, I get that. But the 2010 Michigan staff’s total compensation was 5.9 million.
he’d have failed anyway, but it sure does seem like he was doomed internally from a financial perspective.
