Got this note from Tyler James over at our Notre Dame site on Mike Elston. Some excellent intel on what Michigan is getting in its new assistant coach.

“Mike Elston kept getting better as a defensive line coach and recruiter during his time at Notre Dame. He proved the ability to coach both elite recruits and develop under-the-radar prospects. For instance, all five of Notre Dame's recruits in the 2016 class who ended up playing defensive line made NFL rosters this past season. That group included one five-star prospect (Daelin Hayes), two four-star prospects (Khalid Kareem and Julian Okwara) and two three-star prospects (Adetokunbo Ogundeji and Jamir Jones).”

“Elston builds close relationships with his players and gets them to buy into his philosophy of rotating players. That keeps players motivated and better develops depth across the the defensive line. He's forward-thinking as a recruiter and has established connections in a number of important recruiting areas in Ohio, Philadelphia, New Jersey, North Carolina and more.”
