based on single games. We got blown out last night. It happens. Especially with young kids playing who haven't been playing together that long. Especially on the road against a highly motivated team coming off a bad loss whose talent is similar to our's. Especially against a good coach like Matt Painter.
Today, the Pacers beat the Spurs by 38 points. Two days ago, the Spurs beat the Pacers by 30 points. In basketball, some nights you've got it and some nights you don't.
We are in an era where college basketball teams aren't loaded with experienced NBA talent. Those guys are are in the NBA. As such, there is a lot of parity. Even a team like a Minnesota or Northwestern has enough talent to be able to compete with us. And if one team plays poorly or one team gets more bounces, the team with more talent can lose. Games between teams with similar talent levels (like last night's game) sometimes end in blow outs.
Clearly, we are in a bit of a rut. But that usually happens during the course of a season. I'm guessing we'll pull out of it.
We're not going to dominate this season. Our talent level simply isn't heads and shoulders about most other teams in the B10. This is going to be the case for 99% of Division I teams. Frankly, I think that's good for the game. The uncertainty of games is what makes it exciting.
But we've got the pieces to string together enough wins to make a run.
We'll see . .
