How different is this DC fm 97 and 06

Those turned out to be largely one hit wonders (outstanding in their first year as defensive coordinators and fairly mediocre afterwards). It seems to me that this Durkin's MO as a DC, so I'm hopeful this isn't just the result of team's not knowing how to play against this sort of new D attack.

As much as I hate to say this, we won't know too long. I think Durkin will get a HC offer in about 2 years - he's the real deal. Look at what he did at Florida as well prior to this.

Harbaugh won't have a problem finding a DC. Matti son is still on the D as well. I would prefer he is not hired as the DC again though. His secondary sits in a soft zone too much

No worries on that score. Harbaugh would have made him DC if he felt Mattison was the answer we needed. Mattison wouldn't move back up.

I don't want "26 seconds" Mattison back at DC, either. I'm enjoying the corners actually getting up on the receivers, and this revolutionary thing called a "pass rush".
