I know I know…many of you are thinking are trot out the tired trope that is Bill’s gruff, antagonistic, and sometimes vindictive “Patriot Way” In this post. If you’re one of those, then I hate to inform y’all that you and your ilk are mistaken.

The surprise is that Harbaugh has been running a sublimely subtle form of his own far more advanced and camouflaged version where no starter is guaranteed his position for the next game, the next practice, and the next rep on a daily basis. Unlike Bill, Harbaugh connects emotionally, is deft at telling them the truth, and has simultaneously created a program culture of a true brotherhood led by a whip smart Head Coach who manages to keep his starters uncomfortable and getting that desperate extra effort guys on the 3rd team play with..dudes who are desperately hungry to get noticed rep by rep, practice after practice, and really turn the knob to 11 when they get in the game on special teams, subbing in for a few plays, or being spectacular when he gets on the field for a whole 4th quarter when Michigan blows out MSU by 30 points by halftime this season. Michigan‘s foundation built by upon indomitable will of underrated or underdeveloped 3 and 4 star recruits who are collectively a pack of vicious desperate hungry coldblooded killer wolves. As the saying goes, hungry wolves run faster. Jim’s true genius was to get his best and most talented starting 22 always uncomfortable without them really aware he was doing it. Just look at last year for example, when a starter was playing like his spot at the top was secure and played like it, or a starter showed he was underperforming significantly below his talent level, that player was quietly replaced by a younger 2nd team kid without the experience, but turns into Mr. Hyde every practice on a rep by rep basis. Harbaug straight up tells every new kid on the team that they are on the same level as the Senior starters every practice because every starting position is only rented on a 24 hour basis, and everyone in their position has the opportunity to push themselves to show out with desperately fully maximizing thier effort and to a lesser extent, their physical gifts. I’m a firm believer that overpowering effort will always crush high level naturally elite talent plays who cannot respond by raising their own intensity because they’ve always dominated on talent alone..until they run up against a team playing like ancient Roman vicious giant 200+ pound Molossus War Dogs, the massive aggressive giant canines were trained to charge in great numbers into enemy formations to cause bloody chaos and fear. The resulting collapse of enemy formations allowed the Roman Legions to attack while their enemy was in disarray and in a state of confusion.

That is the level Michigan players perform at. To paraphrase LT, Michigan guys play like a pack of wild dawgs for sure. Sherrone Moore is keenly aware that there is nothing to rebuild in Schembechler Hall. All he has to do is follow Jim’s masterful way he kept the whole team uncomfortable by knowing they will definitely be replace if they don’t give maximum effort in every practice and in every game to hold on to their starting position, or some young guy can steal a starters job who mistakenly believed he owned his job in the starting 22.

As far as all of the coaching hires, I’m giving Moore a pass due to Jim leaving far too late in the hiring cycle for him to hire the top young coordinator talent available. As far as my confidence in these hires…I don’t really care as I fully expect Moore to replace all but the core young talented coaches who are working their way up on the staff. I wouldn’t be surprised to see every hire he made outside of Schembechler Hall is on a one season “prove it” deal. I could care less about the Martindale hire due to the fact that if he doesn’t come close to the job Minter did last year, he’ll be the “1 and Done” stopgap hire most expect him to be. An opinion I share. However, If Wink shows that the only reason he was so blitz heavy is that his linebackers and his dbs couldn‘t cover a 3 toed Sloth in in either man or zone coverage. I think those calling his 2 years in NY a failure are overlooking that the New York Football Giants were absolutely devoid of any talent..especially on defense. He was attempting to beat teams with rosters full of the best of the best pro players with a team with the talent level of a Group of Five team. He did pretty good with the dogshit defensive 2 deep In his first year when Daboll played conservative ball position football, allowing Winks defense to attack with fresh legs and getting to the QB with a sack or pressuring him into a bad interception. The barrage of blitz packages were the best and likely only option he had available, and it worked pretty decent in 2022..helping the Giants get their first playoff win in 14 years. It all fell apart after Jones went down and Wink‘s barely improved defense regressed due to being on the field for 70 snaps and 35 to 40 minutes on the field game after game.

To Summarize: Wink sucks due to the Giants GM not hitting on a single defensive draft pick and made no attempt to improve the defense through either trades or free agency In the off season. So when his defense made of NFL refuse held together by booger welds and zip ties collapsed from a total absence of any talent and being prematurely burned out for spending 2/3rds of the game on the field, that somehow due to Wink being terribly ineffective relic of Defense Past? He’s already been judged and sentenced as Don Brown 2.0? I refrain from responding in a way I am strongly fighting to prevent. I hurt some feelings ..a lot of feelings, with the biting sarcastic tenor in my last post and I don’t want to negatively affect some young poster’s fragile belief in thier self-worth. That’s not sarcasm, that’s the truth. My nephew and his gen z buddied are as soft as Charmin.. I am certainly not the first to make this observation and I’m taking it upon myself to pro actively change my behavior so I don’t accidentally offend anyone again.

However, don’t be surprised if Wink proves he can run sophisticated disguised coverages at a masterful level, largely due to Michigan having far better talent than the New York Football Giants provided him with over 2 years. Man, I’d don’t expect it, but watching all of his detractors that are judging him with the detailed information eat their words would be especially sweet.

One Last Point: For those who are blaming Wink for his fallout with Daboll obviously never watched Daboll’s ragingly angry histrionics towards the refs and the way he coached he guys up by poking them in the chest while screaming in thier faces until his fat bald head turns the color of deep crimson. I swear it looks like his head is about to explode like that tv guy’s head in the incredibly awesome retro B movie classic Scanners. Many of you guys cited innuendo and back channel rumors that Wink was the arsehole in that heated fallout that resulted in his abrupt resignation. Well there is a whole 17 game season of video evidence that Daboll is a foolish insufferable prick of epic proportions. A simple abstract logic proof will confirm that the Giants are scapegoating Wink to hide the fact that Daboll is a POS coach who flies off the handles into a screaming rage to blame everyone from the refs, to the coordinators and position coaches, and even physically and verbally abuses his players in purple headed screaming attacks while they sit on the bench. Guys like David Jones just sit there and take it, but the vets, especially the brothers, either give it right back to him or just act like he isn’t even there. If I played for that guy, I’d be the first NFL player suspended for knocking his coach out on a live nationally broadcasted pro football game. I promise you that his returning players have zero respect for Daboll and he will be the first NFL coach to get fired after the Giants start the season 0-5 because the team won’t play for that colossal jerk. I don’t listen to player podcasts, but I do read the written recap of what was said. I forget whose podcast the Giants DE Keyvon Thibodeaux was on, but when he was asked about his HC Daboll, let’s say his response was pretty effing far from a ringing endorsement. More evidence from inside the locker room that Daboll is living on borrowed time.

The lesson here is never trust anonymous source statements or lies obviously leaked by the Giants front office in order to protect the considerable amount of cash they would have owed Daboll if the truth came out and they were forced to fire him after just 2 years on his contract. The Mara’s are notoriously cheap and they have played these cards before trying to hide the fact that Tom Coughlin had lost his team for a whole season just to prevent paying him for 3 years to do nothing. That ended in a embarrassing display of institutional dysfunction, just like it will when they can Daboll after even that dullard Romo finally notices on a Giants game broadcast where they are on their way to 5 straight non competitive losses and says on live tv, “Hey Jim..I think these guys are just going through the motions out there. I think Brian Daboll has lost his team today.”, proving to the whole world that he’s just not very smart..which explains a lot.

Again, this is not some homer polemic defense of hiring Wink. I wasn’t all that crazy about it, but understood that Harbaugh’s late departure gave Moore nothing but crumbs in the young innovative DC cabinet, and hiring Wink at least keeps the pro style Ravens offense alive at Michigan. Additionally, those who claim that Wink is nothing more than a blitz happy DC one trick pony. Go look at the sophistication of his coverages and lining up 7 on the line while dropping three and rushing 4 with 2 outside linebackers with the DEs and Mike linebacker dropping into coverage. When he had the talent he ran the Ravens defense better than either McDonald or Minter ever did. The reason they dropped offf over his next for years was they had a roster of aging, once elite guys who just couldn’t play anymore. The Ravens in those years were so cash strapped by the bloated salaries of those past thier prime All-Pros and certain 1st ballot HOF legends that they were unable to sign top FA talent. Another factor was Ozzie Newsome weirdly had a couple of meh to awful drafts where he apparently lost his ability to spot guys with elite potential in every round of the draft. So to just make sweeping uninformed statements that “Wink sucked his last 4 years with the Ravens” is so erroneous that the only way to not to use inflammatory words is to simply call it “Obtuse”.

Guys…please do your homework before you start to write your opinion post. You don’t appear to be an idiot when you can back up your argument with verifiable data.

We shall see what happens when September arrives. I think we all know what the Harbaugh’s think about the Martindale hire. Jack and his boys will tell the unvarnished truth boldly to anyone, be it a player, media member, and to your average maniacal Michigan fan exactly what they think about all the contrived controversy and negative noise engulfing the hire of Wink..they’d tell anyone it’s all a crock of bullshit.

Really excited about the 2024 season. I think Moore and Michigan are gonna shock everybody and I’m 100% certain Moore badly out-coaches coach 3rd base..again. Money in the bank. The only negative is that the Sucknut Cult will drag Day out of his house, tar and feather him, and literally chase him out of town about 6 hours after another double digit loss to the Michigan Steamroller. I’ve called it 3 years running before Spring Practices and I’m MORE confident in a 4th straight victory than I was about the previous 3 crushing defeats of coach 3rd base and his Charmin soft collection of mercenary 5 stars. They’re only at Ohio to play for the money and themselves, while our Wolverines play for their brothers, for Michigan, and The Team The Team The Team. Not hard to pick the winner in my opinion.

as always..Go Blue! - Argus
