Hmmm.
In a telephone interview with the Tallahassee Democrat on Tuesday, FSU coach Jimbo Fisher reiterated his stance that Golson must earn the starter's role. Maguire ended spring practice at the top of the Seminoles' depth chart.
"This is a wide-open competition. He knows that. And we had that conversation when he was here," Fisher said. "And I think that's one of the things that impressed me about him. He didn't expect anything like that. He wanted to come in and compete and be given the opportunity to compete. Which is what we're giving him."
Fisher said he was happy with Maguire and the team's young quarterbacks.
""I think we have a great group. I really do," Fisher said.
"This was just an opportunity to get a guy that's led a team to a national championship game, that was one of the frontrunners for the Heisman halfway through the season. This guy has a heck of a track record and I think he can help our team to win a championship and make us a better football team. And that's my job as a coach to be able to do that."
