*** Michigan held its satellite camp in Seattle earlier today. The camp was supposed to have an afternoon session, but it was cancelled due to high temperatures. Because of this Rivals250 Vancouver (Wash.) Union wide receiver Tobias Merriweather was unable to make the camp. Merriweather lives closer to Portland than he does Seattle and didn't get back into town until this morning. Merriweather and his father were on a weekend official visit to Stanford. But Michigan didn't let the scheduling conflict stop it from making a big push.
*** Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, offensive coordinator Josh Gattis and offensive line coach Sherrone Moore had a big FaceTime call with Merriweather right after the camp came to an end. I caught up with Merriweather, who said the call went extremely well. He had some positive talks with all three and really liked Harbaugh's personality. Merriweather added that he's looking forward to getting to know Gattis as the process plays itself out. The staff is pushing for Merriweather to make the trip to Ann Arbor for the Big House BBQ in July, but he's not sure if he will be able to.
*** With that said, Merriweather does want to make an official visit to Michigan, potentially for the game against Washington. While the Michigan offer came later than expected, Merriweather is still very open to Michigan and is excited to get a more in-depth look at the program when he visits. As I've stated before, Merriweather's father, Dom, was born in Detroit and is a big Michigan fan. A member of The Fort, Dom had a blast talking to the staff today and is also excited about the Wolverines finally getting involved.
*** It's obviously a positive that Merriweather is strongly considering Michigan and that he's taking a methodical approach to the process. However, Michigan does have some catching up today. Relationship building will bee critical over the next few months as will his fall official visit. Notre Dame hosted Merriweather for an official visit earlier this summer made a really strong impression, while Stanford did a nice job this weekend as well. Academics are huge for Merriweather, so Michigan needs to sell that side hard as well.
