The three days Jameis Winston and Bryce Petty spent in Ann Arbor left an impression on them, especially being around Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh.

The NFL-bound quarterbacks -- Winston, the former Heisman Trophy winner, is projected possibly as the No. 1 pick, while Petty could be a first-rounder -- were in Michigan on Sunday-Tuesday for their final preparations before this week's NFL combine in Indianapolis.

Harbaugh was the main draw for them, as they spent time in a classroom setting with him and U-M passing game coordinator Jedd Fisch, prepping for what they'll encounter this week.

"That was a blessing, to meet a guy like that," Winston, who starred at Florida State, said in an mgoblue.com video. "I made a reference, when he was in Indianapolis in '95, he had a great year that year. It was just an honor to meet him and all of his accomplishments and the type of coach that he is.

"I wish I could have played for him."

The video showed Harbaugh coming into Glick Field House and noticing how Winston was holding the ball and his throwing motion.

Petty, who produced prolific numbers at Baylor, was impressed, knowing about Harbaugh from his recent stint as the San Francisco 49ers' head coach.

"That's the guy you see on Sundays," Petty said. "If there's anybody you want to play for, as a player, it's a coach like him. Just a fun, energetic guy, passionate about football. From the second he came over here, he was sizing up Jameis, wanted to see his grip. He's just a quarterback. That's the coolest part about playing the position and being coached by somebody that's been there and done that."

They were in Ann Arbor under the tutelage of quarterback guru George Whitfield, who worked as a 49ers intern last summer and has known Harbaugh for more than a decade. Whitfield is based in San Diego, which is where most of the players' off-season training occurred until this week.

In his classroom time, Harbaugh appeared to be explaining what NFL officials will be looking for in their conversations.

"When you get to that question, whoever it is -- grandma, parent -- that's a good time to talk about them," he said to the players. "You do care about them."

The U-M receivers appreciated having the talented quarterbacks working out with them
