Is it she just doesn't like the area for personal reasons or is her issue with the university itself?
From the interviews he seems like a smart kid and has serious interest in high academic schools (ND & Stanford). UM seems like a natural fit for him, at least somewhere he would be interested in checking out more. Very weird situation.
