Aside from that, I think he'll return with a smaller and modest extension for two reasons:
1: Non-revenue sports are teetering. Attendance is gone. Who knows with TV contracts, etc. It would be a public relations disaster to eat a year of his contract and then sign a new coach to a 6 million (just a guess) a year 5 year pact. Some schools (South Carolina) are dense enough to do this. I don't think M will act in that manner when the athletic budget is tightening everywhere.
2: Despite his ego and pride, I could see Harbs taking a pay cut and agreeing to a 4-5 mill extension. He gets to keep his family in place and can rationalize it as a "sign of the times".
