What is behind Michigan’s love for playing highly ranked opponents in the first game?

This team will get better as the season progresses. The offense will develop an identity and rhythm. Substitution patterns will solidify. Individual performance should improve.

I think if Michigan played Notre Dame in the fourth game or later, the result would be different.

Why does Michigan insist on playing highly ranked opponents in their first game? Before the team has an identity and processes have solidified? The love of the spotlight negatively impacts this team.

This silly scheduling falls on Harbaugh’s and Manuel’s shoulders.
