What do you think about the big Paterno celebration at Penn State this weekend?

This article says about 500 former players are going to be in town. Also, Paterno's family seems to be calling the shots, which is weird. How deep is the culture problem in Happy Valley?

For the Michigan game, I like this columnist's idea: http://www.detroitnews.com/story/op...e-paterno-michigan-football-protest/90291752/
No need to start anything with the PSU fans. They don't get it, but harassing them isn't going to help them understand how wrong they are.

(Putting down my newly created "JOE KNEW" sign) Does this mean we're not going to have a meet up at BWI to protest?

Franco Harris seems to be one of the ringleaders of the deranged JoePed cult. I imagine he will be front and center.

Well, the details are out! Here's what the commemoration is going to be! GET OUTRAGED!

"Saturday's activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of Joe Paterno’s first game as Penn State head coach (September 17, 1966 vs. Maryland) will include members of the 1966 team participating in the coin toss (co-captains Mike Irwin & John Runnells) as well as in-game introductions and video presentation"

Did your post get cut off? There wasn't even a period at the end of that sentence. There has to be more festivities than a coin toss.

Is John Ziegler going to introduce Franco Harris with his cut-out JoePa at halftime?

Of course, nobody should be outraged that they're saluting a known ped enabler. A man who couldn't be bothered to try and stop kids being hurt.
Why would that outrage anyone?

Copied it directly (minus the period I missed at the end) from an e-mail I got this afternoon.

This is as I predicted things 14 days ago. It was always going to be low-key and player focused.

Those people in the "LOL Penn State crowd" who were --- if they are being intellectually honest and have the balls to actually admit their motivations --- HOPING for Penn State administrators to roll out the Joe Paterno statue, well, they're going to be disappointed.

To answer your last question: no.

Saturday's "commemoration" (if it can even really be called that) is a diplomatic "bone" being thrown by a University administration that has to deal with (1) a bunch of football players loyal to their old coach, who happen to already be in town for an event this weekend, and (2) a bunch of old fart alumni who can't move on from JoePa.

Nothing more. If Saturday didn't happen to be the exact 50th anniversary, an accident of the way the calendars fall (Saturdays between 1965 and 2015 don't align but they do happen to align between 1966 and 2016), even this low-key event wouldn't exist.

If all this outrages you and damages your psyche --- fair enough.
