USA-Russia WJC quarterfinal game thread

Terrible game by the US. Took way too many penalties and they didn't deserve to win.

Larkin was the star of the team. Let's hope this carries over to UM's games.
Motte and Compher were adequate but didn't contribute too much.
Werenski was solid but not spectacular.

I enjoyed watching Eichel. I was glad I saw Matthews although he didn't do a whole lot. I was very impressed by Alex Tuch.

Does anyone else who watched all the games feel we were consistently out coached?

For the second year in a row...

...Team USA lost to an arguably less-talented Russian team in the quarterfinals.

While I don't think they played terribly in this year's game (in fact, they outplayed Russia everywhere except the scoreboard), losing twice under the same circumstances should make the US powers-that-be take a close look at why that happened.

Talent-wise, they were one of the top three teams in the tourney (second most talented in my estimation) and when a team underperformed in the standings, coaches are usually the ones to shoulder the blame.

Post mortem by Chris Dilks at the link.

Really felt for JT playing on the fourth line after missing last season due to the injury. Hope he takes it out on the Big Ten.

Kyle Connor not getting a chance at the pre-tourney camp is SO puzzling to me.
