just walked into (literally) the backyard of UM and stolled a recruit! While Jimmy's away! Urban will play & dominate! He's more worried about SEC land rather than his own backyard

A 3* out of Pioneer in AA.

4* Rivals 250 out of Pioneer. #2 player in the state.

Jimmy slow played him and when it became apparent that OSU was about the close the deal, Michigan really ramped up their efforts but it was too little, too late.

The easy narrative is to say "Michigan didn't want him" but that is a load of manure. If that were the case they wouldn't have wasted any time trying to recruit him a couple weeks ago.

We are sure that you have the inside track on this one. They did not go after him hard for a reason and it's not a massive loss for UM. We have our eyes on the far hills of the country's recruits, so hold your best recruits tightly Big Purple, we might decide to tap them on the shoulder ala Grant Perry.

Taking one from Northwestern is not quite the same as taking one from Urban. I can say that the ship has sailed for Simmons, he was rightly pissed at the slow play.

Good luck with national recruiting as a solution. We do it quite well ourselves but it is no coincidence that the core of our national championship teams come from close to home. You can't build a title team with mercenaries. No one ever has, Oregon has tried to do it twice. Bama gets 75% of their roster from in-state of contiguous states despite being a national recruiting power, Ohio State gets 55% of their roster from the region.

Who cares what Simmons thinks? It wasn't even a blip on our screens, I just happened to see a flash across Rivals and didn't think twice. UM is in serious play with 8-10 in-staters this round, so your concerns are, well, risible. But with the closeness that you follow UM football you probably knew that.

UM has had a long, long history of getting their best from national sources as well as regionally. Look up the post I put out six weeks ago listing by position the Who's Who list of players that came out of region in the last 30 years. That is coming back with a vengeance under this coach. I suspect 38-0 beat downs may be the future of the Northwestern/UM rivalry.

When you reference Alabama and the contiguous states....does this apply to UM and states like Indiana. I believe UM received commitments from guys from Indiana and Michigan not to mention close by states like Wisconsin.

Apparently, they didn't waste much time on getting him either. The easy narrative for outside is Michigan wanted him badly, but just wasn't good enough so he went to a real school instead.

It's called "hedging your bets". If you have 30 spots open you "show interest" in 60 or more potential recruits. If he was a priority to the class, we may not have got him, but Harbaugh would have gone all in to do so.

If a kid doesn't come to Michigan it's because Harbaugh didn't really want him. If that prospect is a three star prospect, it's because Harbaugh only recruits top nationally rated four and five star prospects. Unless he recruits a three star prospect, in which case Harbaugh doesn't care about stars. Of course if Harbaugh rescinds that player's scholarship, it's because as a life long Wolverine fan, the kid didn't really want to be at Michigan anyway and the split was mutual.

See, I'm finally starting to get it.

No, supposedly Michigan wanted him, but he had a hissy fit because the offer didn't come soon enough. He was rightly pissed about it.

If we wanted a guy in our back yard (literally) badly, we would have offered him earlier and gone after him harder. Most believe it was a courtesy offer because he's across the street. I don't think he has a true position in college, especially in Michigan's defense.

This is the same with every fan base. However, the difference here is this kid was literally in our back yard and Harbaugh waited to offer. Harbaugh has shown that he is absolutely on top of prospect identification so there is absolutely zero chance he didn't know who Simmons was. I just don't think he truly fits a position at Michigan.

He "waited" until this fall, his junior year to offer him, a whole 10 months into his job as head coach. The horror, the horror. So what, honestly none of us have our panties wadded about the local kid that went to ND this year and I doubt that we will be grief stricken over Simmons. UM has a history of getting Columbus-area players, it doesn't worry me or many others I suspect a bit that OSU got one from Ann Arbor. But of course Klemmen is free to project what ever concerns he has on to this, that's his prerogative and MO.

He has thrown out a ton of 2017 offers, and Simmons wasn't one of them for a long time. I think he could be a kid without a position.

It didn't matter what he did with Daelin Hayes, that kid wasn't coming here. Family issues, mom did not want him at Michigan.

You just described every football fan base out there :)

Sounds like you are talking about your beloved buckeyes and their fans

Like I wrote, a big nothing sandwich.

Per Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports, an unnamed NFL team pressed Spence about his past drug use, to which he responded by saying, "I wasn't the only one doing it at OSU, trust me."

Haaaa!!!
