Top-100 wing Matas Buzelis has saw his recruitment blow up over the summer after a strong AAU campaign. After receiving a string of offers, Michigan decided to throw its hat into the ring with an offer of its own.
The Wolverines also stopped by Buzelis' high school, Brewster Academic, to watch him work out. It is my belief that the Wolverines will be able to build a solid relationship with Buzelis, as that's never really an issue or concern with the current staff.
However, the big thing comes down to how exactly the Wolverines plan to pursue Buzelis. As I've stated in the past, the Wolverines are using a 'going the speed limit' approach (words used by a solid source familiar with the Wolverines' recruiting strategy) with the 2023 class. Many things still need to be figured out on the court, including how many scholarships will be available for the 2023 class and what kind of roles can be offered to recruits.
Buzelis himself is also not in a rush to figure things out. From a source close to Buzelis:
"Matas is still in the preliminary stages of his recruitment. He’s finishing up the Fall Trimester and preparing for exams. He’s still in the process of evaluating prospective college programs and looking forward to watching their seasons."
The relationship between he and the Wolverines is still very much in the beginning stages but I expect him to be pursued by Juwan Howard and staff.
If you're a college basketball fan in general, Buzelis' name is one to keep an eye out for wherever he goes.
