Fast forward to 2016-2017 and look at the roster make up. While it might be a stretch on my part, for the sake of embellishing my point, assume that Zak Irvin goes pro (somewhere) after next year. Or don't, I'm not sure it matters a ton but if he left the math is easier; if he stays he's probably your starting 2. These are the plausible guards (1s or 2s) though of he's either gone or strictly a forward:
2016-17
1: Derrick Walton Jr., 6-1 Sr. PG
2 (spot 1): M. Ali Abdur-Rahkman, 6-4 Jr. SG
(3, spot 2): A. Dawkins, 6-6 Jr. SF
(3 or 4, 2 in a pinch) D. Robinson, 6-8 Jr. SG
Dawkins is perfect, IMO, as a 3. Robinson probably is too, otherwise he's that Beilein stretch 4.
Hands down, Winston is the top priority for a 2016 scholarship, but from what I'm hearing and reading there may be room for one in 2015 and if Davis goes to prep school there is still room for another 2016.
Absent getting Brown, in which case Williams is a forgotten blip on the radar, I think if there is room for him you have to take him. He may not play a minute next year, he might redshirt. But I pose that you'd want another guard in this class to get some grooming for 2016, where minutes from somebody will be essential. Langford / Battle / others still are the real prizes, but I can really see the value in adding a shooter to a less than super -shooter backcourt.
Lots of easy ways to punch holes in this argument, but if it's not Brown, and it's Williams, I'll be happy.
Post-script: I've posted before that I think Hatch as a non-bb-scholarship kid is inevitable. If it can happen for Brown, it can happen for Kenny. Beilein can choose to be, if he wants I guess, but you can't be partially pregnant. He is or he isn't. Or he is when he is. But if he IS, then Kenny is our guy.
Don't mean to flame, with this but curious about your thoughts.
