Hurricanes: Yet another reason that adding Maryland to the conference was a dumb idea. How freaking stupid.
Not to worry, we cannot afford to lose PSU, we'd never have learned about NAMBLA if it wasn't for them.HA!
Just think. We could write them a check for half the gate and add a little extra and will be more than they pull down in that rum dum stadium.
oh..and College Park is a pit.

I'll give you even-money odds that in 50 years, Michigan IS in a conference with Penn state, Maryland, Rutgers, Virginia, UNC and Georgia Tech ........ and is NOT in a conference with Nebraska, Iowa or Minnesota
Translated: just you wait Rutgers, UConn, Maryland, and BC will soon rule the world of football and Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan will beg, yea on bended knee, for inclusion as lesser luminaries in an ascendant eastern conference. Great got it!Like it or not, the B1G's future is in the East. That's where the $$$ and better demographics are. Not in low-population corn states like Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Minnesota.

I honestly see the Eastern B1G schools splitting away within 50 years and melding with a group of Eastern/Mid-Atlantic schools. That's the future. Why share a conference with increasingly irrelevant corn-state schools? Again, it's not 1992 anymore.
Rain and wind in Maryland on Saturday, but no hurricane or tropical storm; that comes in later, if it comes in at all.Hurricanes: Yet another reason that adding Maryland to the conference was a dumb idea. How freaking stupid.
What is your problem with corn state schools ? I guess you eat nothing that has corn products in it. Typical of a Johnny Come Lately School fan to offer your plan for the future of the Big Ten. Happy Valley is no paradise either.Like it or not, the B1G's future is in the East. That's where the $$$ and better demographics are. So true !!With sky-high immigration, all states will have expanding populations. The midwest isn't going to empty out, lol!
And if global warming is as bad as they say, people will move back north, especially to a place with the most fresh water on earth. Think long-term.
Is there really a bright future for all the people who now live in the desert in the southwest? Talk about unsustainable. Those people are going to be moving out of there at some point. There's no water. They are damming rivers (and ruining many beautiful canyons by the way) and diverting huge amounts of water and it still isn't nearly enough.
Adding Rutgers and Maryland was done purely to add cable boxes. Delaney is hardly the visionary you think he is. His thinking is outmoded at best. He thinks it's still the 80s.

What all the "Kick Maryland and Rutgers out of the Big Ten, we don't like them!!!!!" whiny crybabies forget is that MICHIGAN voted FOR the twosome to join the conference!
I was not whining about Maryland and Rutgers but do resent the "corn state" comment. And the last time I looked the state of Pennsylvania has plenty of overweight people and a high incidence of diabetes. Corn products are not limited to corn syrup. What all the "Kick Maryland and Rutgers out of the Big Ten, we don't like them!!!!!" whiny crybabies forget is that MICHIGAN voted FOR the twosome to join the conference!
Shoot, at least the U-M folk who didn't like the move from 10 schools to 11 schools have a leg to stand on --- President Duderstadt voted against expansion back in 1990.
Quit whining about Maryland & Rutgers. They are now part of the B1G family. They aren't getting kicked out. Only one school has ever been kicked out of the B1G conference and it's not happening again. Accept it.
Also, it's a definite fact that Michigan residents eat lots of foods with corn products in them. The state of Iowa, along with all doctors who support diabetics, thank the state of Michigan for their high consumption of high fructose corn syrup.

You call it corn .... we call it Maize.
Don't bad mouth farmers or farm states with your mouth full.
Well your reason for touting the new Big Ten members seems to be that you think your beloved PSU will have no trouble defeating them in future football games. Not so likely with the western members of the Big Ten."Corn state" --- geez, what a HORRIBLE comment I made. Tie me up and whip me. It's not like:
Iowa --- 93% of the state's land is dedicated to agriculture.
Nebraska --- it's nicknamed the CORN-husker state.
Minnesota --- Home of the HQ of the biggest food company in America (GMI).
Wisconsin --- the Dairy state. Again, food stuff.
But fine, play the victim by being "resentful" of states being labeled "corn states."

We all eagerly anticipate the rise of the Beast of the East that you prophecy based on your dissertation on demographic trends. It's hard to see quite yet, but we are sure that you are sure it's coming! Thanks for "telling me what I'm thinking" --- typical post from you.
Anyway, good article from this week's edition of Ad Age on the B1G's eastward-expansion. If one is paying attention, the network continues to approve. Also, there aren't quite as many Rotel commercials (which was basically the BTN's ONLY advertiser in early days).

I'm just giving you a rough time about Rutgers and Maryland''s football programs...they are both in sad shape and not likely to be helped by the baby boom any time soon. I'm well aware of demography shifts and, yes, for a while they played a huge role in upticks in historically moribund programs like FSU and Miami (yto). National schools like OSU, UM, ND, etc. have caught up in terms of recruiting those areas, so the FL colleges no longer are just being fed exclusively by great FL HS programs.Hey, I get it --- Michigan (& Ohio & PA) residents typically don't like change.
And since we're talking demographics --- my sentence above is born out in actual facts and numbers. Michigan is the 2nd-most inbred state in America. Ohio is 3rd, Pennsylvania is 4th.

Anyway, change is coming, whether you like it or not. At first I didn't like the idea myself (RU & MD to the B1G), but I've definitely warmed up to the idea big time. It was a very smart move for the B1G.
