One year ago, MSU was rolling. With Dantni escaping East Lansing with bags of cash, they needed a new coach. If only they had 10M of budget to hire, they could get any coach they wanted. First choice Luke Fickell, errr, CMFT was was hired and was just plain CMT then, and was the next big thing to restore MSU football to mediocrity. 5.5M per year coach with deep pockets for his dream-team assistant pool to compete with his rivals. If only CMFT had a local coach to run Michigan recruiting? CMFT dug deep to bring in ex-Sparty WR Courtney Hawkins with with his deep ties into the Flint football talent pipeline. That has paid off big with their signing of 0 of the top 10 recruits in the state. They would have landed #6 in Mi, #98 overall but he flipped to Michigan on signing day. If only CMFT had beaten a depleted Michigan team, or had turmoil in Michigan staff, or a dream team of high paid assistants on his staff. If only Benny lived in Flint... Things would be different.

Fast forward to today. CMFT's recruiting is even worse than Dantni's. For some reason, he cannot win an in-state battle against Michigan nor can he win any kind of battle against, well, anyone. According to Mom's Basement, if only CMFT had Official Visits the game would insta-change. Right now, the recruits do not have the ability to meet CMFT personally. If only they had that, then everything would be perfect. (editors note: I am almost certain that recruits personally touring a room with a bunch easels displaying the architectural drawing board plans for new football buildings, weight rooms and other facilities isn't the same as touring the ACTUAL buildings.
Meanwhile, the recruiting juggernaut is hammering on the portal for his new players. 10 new players are inbound and counting. CMFT is leaving no stone unturned. Funny that these portal kids without ANY ties to the state or university have no problems committing to MSU yet every in-state player they chase does... Weird.
One year ago, the fighting Izzo's were riding high after winning the B1G and poised for a deep tournament run. If only CV19 hadn't hit, Izzo would have his latest team to choke in the final 4. The 2021/21 version of Sparty hoops peaked at #4 after 3 weeks of the season. If only Foster Loyer hadn't gotten hurt (per Izzo, he knew how to run their offense like no other
) . If only Rocket Watts was a point guard, if only Rocket could shoot he could be a 2 guard, if only Marcus Bingham would eat food or not average 2 fouls a minute, if only Joey Hauser could play, if only A.J. Hoggard didn't suck, if only they had more than one player that could score, and if only Izzo didn't have to play weird lineups everything would be great.
If only they could beat Michigan today, they would be locks for the tournament.
