As has been mentioned ad nauseam, UM last won there in 2005, and is 0-4 since then (2009, 2011, 2013, 2016). Does it mean anything? Probably not, since a year ago, we heard UM hadn't won in Madison since 2001 (was 0-5 in that time).
(1) Since losing to Michigan in October 2005, Iowa has lost 32 home games. So, they're dropping around 2 home games a year.
(2) Who has the won most games at Iowa City in that period? Both Wisconsin and Northwestern have won 6 times each, followed by Penn St, Purdue and Iowa State with 3 times each.
(3) How many B1G teams have won at Kinnick since Michigan? 9. However, in 2005, there were only 11 B1G teams. Only Illinois and Minnesota have joined UM as having not won in Kinnick since 2005 (Maryland and Rutgers also have not won, but they weren't in the B1G until 2014). The Minnesota and Illinois streaks are clearly worse, as they've played at Kinnick many more times then UM since 2005 as B1G west members.
(4) Here's the real depressing number. How many teams from Michigan have won at Kinnick since 2005? The answer is 3. Michigan State did it twice, but Western Michigan and Central Michigan have each won at Kinnick since 2005. I guess the good news is Eastern hasn't beaten us to the punch yet.
(5) But what about the games themselves? As I mentioned above, UM had lost five in a row at Madison, but many of the games were not competitive (only one game, 2005, was decided by less then 14 points). The losses at Iowa are the exact opposite. UM has lost by 1 point (2016), 2 points (2009), 3 points (2013) and 8 points (2011). In two of those games, UM had a two score lead (2013, 2016) at one point.
(6) But has Iowa has always been a house of horrors? Prior to 2005, we lost there in 2003. Prior to that, UM had won 4 in a row (3 by 14+, including a 20 point win over a top 10 Iowa in 1991). The 1999 and 2005 games were close (those UM teams went 8-4 and 7-5). The other times? UM finished in the top 10 all three times.
(7) What does this all mean? Nothing of course as no one from this roster was a part of any of these games, but if history is right, if UM wins there, it's likely to win 2+ scores.
