So I see the LSU board isn't happy with Miles...

I wonder if Les wishes he took the UM job the first time. I wish he had but don't know if that translates getting Harbaugh.

I know Miles wanted UM this last time. It's interesting how these things work...all the money and politics involved.

PSU gets O'Brien and then he leaves before the sanctions are reduced. Franklin does well at Vandy and gets the job. Dantonio lands at MSU after John L. blows up. Meyer perfectly times going to OSU and leaves Florida high and dry the year before.

Sometimes you need a little luck and timing is everything.

If he'd come here (whether in 2007 or 2011), he'd probably still be here, so we wouldn't have Harbaugh. I'm assuming he'd have won enough to have avoided getting fired, but I suspect we'd be stuck at a 8-4/9-3 level with him, and our fans wouldn't be thrilled with him. His offensive philosophy and QB development are looking pretty suspect, and he definitely has problems managing late-game situations.

Offensive coaching and qb development is Cam Cameron. Enough said

Hell if he didn't have NFL talent up the wazoo? He'd be so average!

Miles' problem is his loyalty to Cameron and his inability to keep a DC in place for a set number of years. Losing Chavis was a huge blow to the Tigers.

I'd go a step further and say that he's extremely reliant on his coordinators as he doesn't seem to be a great X and O guy himself. So when he has Cam Cameron as OC instead of Jimbo Fisher, it gets pretty ugly.

Not getting Miles and enduring Hoke and then getting Harbaugh would have been worth it. Having to endure RR and Hoke and then getting Harbaugh wasn't worth it although check back with me in 10 years and maybe I will revise my opinion.

I agree with the above assessment. Miles needs really good coordinators because he reminds me of a more competent Hoke. Good recruiter and can clearly run a program but more of a rah rah front man/motivator.

To truly be an elite coach at this level (Meyer/Saban) you need to be able to motivate, develop, scout, game plan and recruit AND hire a staff. Not easy which is why there are only a handful of guys.
