Since much of their class for the ages is under indictment, quit football, transferred or "other", they are back to recruiting for character.

Seemingly every commit they get now is either an "elite camp sleeper", "under the radar", or "criminally under rated". They also have a few other things in common: few stars, no other P5 offers and their shoulders are measured for the installation of "chips".

It seems that lack of offers increases the size of the chip one can carry. If that non-offer is a "Michigan" one then it becomes gigantic. Dimitry Douglas openly discussed his bitterness at not getting a Michigan offer when at the MSU camp. I guess Indiana State, Bowling Green, CMU and Buffalo are immune from his "chip effect".

And I don't know how Douglas, and the Slade brothers went from zero stars to 3 overnight. It must be the chip factor?

Chip + character = Spartan Dawg.
