RB Coach who recruited Mike Weber to tO$U now leaving for the Bears*

He's not the first to do it but it really smells bad. Dirtballs!...

Smells a lot like Columbus.

Go Blue!

Weber's tweet...

..."I'm hurt as hell I ain't gone lie".

Meyer = Typical Dirtball SEC coaching philosophy.

NCAA needs to do something about this, it's ridiculous

UCLA's DC also left and didn't bother to tell any of the recruits ahead of time.

I think kids should be able to sign with another school if they get played like that. Why are kids locked in at a point that their coach can jump ship to another school or the NFL?

Re: NCAA needs to do something about this, it's ridiculous

What's crazy is the recruiting period ends in April (I think), so schools just have to make sure their recruits sign on NSD and then there's an extra 2 months or so for a coach to jump ship. I don't blame Smith for taking an extra week to decide where he wants to commit.

What really amazes me is how these d-bag coaches...

... can sleep at night knowing how bad they've misled & screwed these 17-18 yr old kids. Total SEC Dirtball mentality!

This happens all the time in college football Carr regularly seitched

coaches and coordinators just after the signing period. Not a big deal

From what I understand Weber was to be the only back in your class speaking of being honest. Herman and other coach's across America have taken other jobs for promotions. In Herman's case it was way before NSD and if anyone wanted to flip they had a month to do so.

Re: Weber and Higdon were on the same Official Visit

Pretty sure he was aware JH was recruiting other RB's. Urb is a different kind of sleeze and any hilljack can tell the difference.

Re: Weber and Higdon were on the same Official Visit

I'll start to worry when Michigan fans start liking and saying nice things about an OSU coach. Kind of like how OSU fans felt about Hoke and Rich Rod.

Why not let the player out of his committment in that case?

If the coach who recruited a kid isn't committed, then why should the kid be?

I'm not in favor of paying the players, but things like this really make it look like they are being exploited. A grown man recruits a kid to come to a school for months or years, and doesn't bother to mention that he's leaving as soon as the kid signs on the dotted line? That really seems ethical to you?

This!

How would YOU feel if you hired in for a job

and the day after accepting the offer (before you even start at the job, mind you), you hear your new boss --- a person who was heavily involved in recruiting you --- quit?

Yes, it's legal ....... but it certainly would be a "WTF is going on here moment?!?!?!?!?" and many people would strongly re-consider whether they want to go forward.

Of course, much like with college football recruits, whether you have "options" is dependent on if you actually signed a binding contract. For college football recruits, they're a bit screwed: it's either go to the school or sit out a year.

. . . everyone went crazy when the NLRB ruled NWSTRN could unionize

This is exactly the type of thing that would be addressed.

I keep waiting for challenge to transfer restrictions under noncompete law

Most states enforce noncompete agreements if they are reasonable in geographic and temporal restriction. Basically, 1-3 years if you can prove a legitimate business need to restrict a former employee from working for a competitor.

Some states don't enforce them at all. I keep waiting for a player to transfer to a California school and argue that California does not enforce noncompete agreements. The transfer restrictions that a school places on a player's ability to change schools is a noncompete agreement. They have no legal validity in California.

Wow ... that would be good, I never thought about the non-compete angle

In general, I view non-competes as BS. California would definitely be the state to do it in, given the law out there.

Actually I revise and extend my comments, OSU acted like scumbags

on this issue. After listening to WTKA this AM it's apparent the coach was blowing smoke up Weber's ass for hours the day before he signs and then the coach, right after, leaves. This is crap and if I were Harbaugh I'd wave it like a crap-filled diaper in front of recruits in Ohio and MI to let them know who they're signing up with, a win-at-all-costs regime.

He didn't do his homework on this, I feel badly for Weber

but not too much, he threw UM under the bus with the no other RB crap (hell, JH has signed THREE damn QBs in the space of a month, what did he expect, a red carpet, no competition clause?). Enjoy playing for a slick, win-at-all-costs regime Mr. Weber.

I'm ok with that. If the prospect wants to win, he knows where to go. If it is more important that his status to play right away, be a guaranteed starter, or have a coach that is guaranteed to be there all four years, he has other options. No hard feelings.

Not surprised that you feel that way....

You typify OSU and its fanbase. UM and other schools will be using this against your lying coach and program for years to come.

^^^So good to see Tressel's ethics being resurrected in Columbo

that didn't take long...we're well on our way to OSU bending rules and fans throwing piss bags in the name and spirit of competition.

OSU and Urban Meyer will be just fine.

All I'm saying is if the shoe was on the other foot you better damn hope Harbaugh would get the top rated recruit out of Ohio if he had the chance. If he is the coach you desire and the coach you want to take Ohio State down and return Michigan football to what it was than he would do the same. Recruiting is a cutthroat business. I'm sorry but Mike Weber is going to be just fine. Relationships are built in recruiting but its about the culture, the school and teammates. I know Hoke failed but what did he always preach..." This is Michigan ".

Here is the problem with this point of view. Weber wasn't committed to UM so why would he be promised the only RB slot? Is it reasonable for Harbaugh to have a backup plan? Of course it is. He decided to accept Higdons commitment instead of hoping for weber to flip. If weber wanted to be the only RB commit, then he should have committed.

I fear the day when Michigan fans feel about OSU's coaches and fans the way we've felt about you and your coaches the past 10 years. But when you hate us and call us names, it means things are pretty good.

Actually, your previous post implied they wouldn't. At least be consistent

It can also mean that your coach did a pretty crappy thing to a high school kid. Nothing wrong with acknowledging that.

Any names I've directed at OSU have been dwarfed....

by the names my friends and I have been called in Columbus. Whether you realize it or not-you're a fan of a classless organization down there.
