Q on the punt: It would've been a tough play, but #24 had a great shot to (a) force him OB or (b)...

dive at his legs on the 5-7 yard line. Am I mistaken ?

I thought he had a real shot to force him OB. But the easier play might've been a trip/tackle.

#24 goes low, 3-4 MSU guys chasing/blocking, they're all running close together. One guy goes down they all get tripped up. Tough play.......but 24 could've been your hero.

What I/everybody else seen on Saturday.

Lyons was being held by #39 for the last 15 yards. Otherwise, he had a chance to tackle him. Another no-call.

Yup .... but they probably would have given them the ball at the 15 and put two seconds back on the clock so State could win on a field goal.

There are several things that last series that ...could ... have prevented the outcome that happened, from happening.

We could have burned the clock with different play calling on 1st - 3rd downs instead of running plays between the tackles; we could have moved the chains; we could have gone for the 1st down on fourth down; the punter could have caught the snap and got the kick off; the punter could have just covered up the ball on the muffed snap; and a better punt prevent formation could have prevented the run back.

None of which happened and we blew the game. Very unfortunate, learn from it and move on ... beat TUOS!

Spartan Bob is not on the clock anymore. Game over.

Ha!

But looked to me the clock didn't run out until he hit the goal line, or very close to it. If they were going to call the play dead at the 15, probably they'd get a couple ticks on the clock back.

I think if you slowed down the clock in replay he probably actually crossed the goal line with tenths of a second left. Replay would have put that back on if tackled short. No question time left if tackled at the 15 or so. Imagine if that would have been the case & M would have been able to block the FG try. Talk about another bizarre twist to the whole thing!!

He had to beat 3 or 4 Spartan blockers to get to the guy with the ball. It did not look like a hold; certainly not

It would have been a tough play because the guy with the ball had a convoy of 4-5 blockers. Actually, Jake Butt came close to making the play before the goal line but he was a step too late. Just a fluky play all around. There were several points in that 10 second play where it might have been stopped without a TD. Have to chalk it up to the arbitrary ways of the football gods.
